Representing the Committee: Steve Lawson, Ephraim Wilfong, John Adams Representing the Department: Angie Conn, Planner; Rachel Boone, Sign Reviewer Representing the Petitioner: Scott Riddle, owner representative for Ed Martin; Mark Harrison, Balor Principal, George Small, Architect Of Counsel: John Molitor Docket No. 11040005 ADLS Amend: Ed Martin Signage. The applicant seeks approval for a new wall signage a building entry element. The site is located at 9896 N. Michigan Rd and is zoned I -1 /Industrial within the Michigan Rd Overlay Zone. Filed by George Small, AIA, of Design Point Inc. Submittal is the compromise solution between what the overlay requires and what changes General Motors will allow to their brand image requirements. Proposed first First alternative is that we have cropped the arch so that it does not extend beyond the front fascia of the existing building— it is typically 40 ft in length and now it is reduced by half. It still retains the arch look that General Motors requires but at the same time better conforms to what the City requires. We have maintained the black/gray ACM mirrored reveals GM will not alter from this approach. On the black ACM band on the existing this is for the dealer name letters Ed Martin which is left hand margin dominate and then you see the GMC backlit sign which is on the entry feature, this is not attached to the building, not an addition to the building, but a free standing piece. Committee The other version is a fairly good solution, to eliminate the black ACM band across the front of the existing structure to make it more of an EFIS look and then the placement of the Ed Martin names left hand margin dominate, but incorporate the band that would be more enhancement to the existing material that is on the building. No altering the colonial architecture it helps to blend or balances what the City wants to keep but incorporates what GM wants Mr. Harrison to keep Rachel Boone observed how amazing how a little bit of change can go a long way. She approves of the EFIS look Lights will be kept to have the front of the building illuminated. The light fixture will be raised a few inches and be mounted to the back of parapet so that the stem will be hidden. 2. John Adams moved that Docket No. 11040005 ADLS Amend: Ed Martin Signage. Be forwarded to the Plan Commission with a positive recommendation with understanding that light will be in a more appropriate location along with lighter color fagade which match and will move bank off coin corners.
