3. Docket No. 11080009 ADLS Amend: Circle K/Shell (Range Line Rd.) Signage
The applicant seeks approval to place one new wall sign and one new ground sign on the property.
The site is located at 545 S. Range Line Rd. and is zoned B -1. It is located within the Carmel Dr. /Range Line Rd.
Overlay Zone. Filed by Ben DeHayes of Corporate ID Solutions on behalf of the owner.
The Applicant seeks approval to install a new ground sign and wall sign. Variances were recently granted at the August
22 BZA meeting for ground sign height, number of signs, number of signs facing west, 100% logo sign, and total square
footage. A previous variance was granted for the ground sign to be located in the right of way a number of years ago.
The ground sign is 27.5 sq. ft. and 7 -ft tall. It will have a white background with the red and yellow Shell logo, red and
white Circle K logo, and pricing signs for regular and diesel fuel. The regular fuel letters will be red. The diesel fuel
letters will be green, as is the industry standard. The base is silver and is also high enough to allow for new flowers and
shrubbery to be planted at its base to improve the look of the sign. The sign will be internally illuminated.
The gas canopy will be changed from the existing red and white Crystal Flash motif to the traditional Shell branding of
white, yellow, and red. The canopy will be illuminated by the red band. Please see your packet for more details on this

The wall sign is a 100% logo sign for Circle K.• It is centered over the entrance to the convenience store. It is 16 sq. ft. in
area. Also proposed are the Circle K stripes on either side of the logo wall sign. The Department is NOT in favor of
these racing stripes. Staff believes that they add sign clutter and take away from the building's appearance. Currently, the
fascia is red. The Department thinks abetter alternative is to leave the fascia red or paint it a solid white color.

Recommendation:
After all comments /concerns are addressed, the Dept of Community Services (DOCS) recommends positive consideration
of Docket No. 11080009 ADLS Amend.
