EXPLANATION
Autobase, Inc. ("Autobase") is intending, as a tenant, to occupy the 5t~ and 6m
floors of the Meridian Tower office building ("Meridian Tower") located south of 103~a
Street, east of Spring Mill Road~ and north of 1-465, with a common address of 201 103ra
Street West, Indianapolis, Indiana 46290. The subject real estate is presently zoned B-1
(Business District), and Meridian Tower is considered a multi-tenant, multi-level office
building under the Carmel/Clay Zoning Ordinance.
Section 25.07.02-10 of the Ordinance permits one ground or wall identification
sign for each frontage on a public street. While Meridian Tower is clearly visible from 1-
465, it currently possesses frontage along 103ra Street only. Accordingly, it is permitted
one wall, roof, or ground identification sign on the 103ra Street frontage. Currently, there
are no wall signs located anywhere on Meridian Tower, and there are two ground signs,
existing north of the north elevation of the building, functioning as directory signs.
Autobase is requesting variances to permit the construction of a wall
identification sign, with a maximum area of 147.94 square feet, on the south elevation of
Meridian Tower, facing 1-465. The request necessitates two variances:
(i)
(ii)
A variance is needed as to location, permitting the transfer of a sign otherwise
permitted on the 103ra Street frontage to the 1-465 frontage; and

A variance is needed as to size of sign. Per the applicable sign chart for a
building possessing freeway frontage, 100 square feet is the maximum sign
area permitted on the elevation of a building facing 1-465. It is noteworthy,
however, that excepting the triangular logo shown on Exhibit 5 of this
brochure, the sign area would be approximately fifty (50) square feet.
Concurrently with this request, Autobase is also requesting ADLS approval of the
proposed Autobase sign. We look forward to presenting the various requests to the
Board of Zoning Appeals Hearing Officer at the hearing scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on
November 30, 2004.
