We hope your municipality is fully utilizing your membership and the many benefits that it can bring to your community and your citizens. As an elected official, you know changes in the Census data affect everything from federal appropriations to municipal road funding. NLC is no exception as city membership dues are based on city population. Understanding that many municipalities have had significant increases in population and are also facing the challenging fiscal environment, the NLC Board of Directors voted to cap all Census increases to no more than 4% in 2012. This will allow for adequate time for planning for the full dues amount, which will be assessed for all member cities in 2013. Therefore, the dues amount for the City of Carmel for this year is $3,388, which represents a 4% increase over last year. Because your municipality's population increased more than 83% since the 2000 census, based on the updated reported census population of 79,191, your municipality's 2013 dues will be $5,952. We wanted to provide you this number in advance so that you can include this information in consideration in your FY2013 budget discussions. NLC will continue to provide excellent services while helping city leaders build better communities. Through your engagement with NLC, you also have the opportunity to gain insight into your specific interests by getting involved in one of the NLC's councils, committees or panels.
