The general provisions of the contract, including general and supplementary conditions and the general requirements, apply to the work specified in this section. 1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. The extent of liquid-applied polyurethane flashing membrane is shown on drawings and/or specified herein. 1.3 RELATED SECTIONS A. Division 03 Section “Cast-In-Place Concrete.” for expansion joint concrete curbs. B. Division 05 Section “ Metal Fabrications” for expansion joint membrane support where shown on the drawings. C. Division 07 Section “SBS Modified Sheet Waterproofing” for waterproof membranes. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Manufactures data: Submit (4) copies of installation instructions, product data and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each material and application specified. One copy of the MSDS must be kept on site and available for reference. 1. Technical data sheets must include information on the following tests: a. Accelerated aging b. Dimensional stability c. Elongation B. Certification showing that the Installation Contractor is approved by the material manufacturer. C. Certification that all materials are warranted and supplied by a manufacturer supplying single source responsibility for the products furnished. D. Samples: Submit (4) samples of the flashing membrane showing the completed thickness. 1. Provide granulated sample if required. E. Warranty: Sample copies of warranty clearly defining terms, conditions, and time periods for the warranty. The Installation Contractor must be approved in writing by the liquid flashing membrane manufacturer with the date of the approval prior to the project bid date. The contractor must have a minimum of 5 years experience with Liquid Flashing Membranes Systems application and meet the requirements of Section 01 40 00 Quality Requirements. B. The liquid flashing membrane manufacturer must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the production and consistent formulation of liquid flashing membranes specified herein and must meet the requirements of Section 01 40 00 Quality Requirements. C. The manufacturer must have an available technical staff to assist the contractor in the application of the flashing membrane (if necessary) or to answer any questions on any component of the assembly. D. Manufacturer shall supply proof of their ISO 9002 certification. E. Pre-Construction Conference: The manufacturer must meet with the required parties at the site to review the project conditions that relate to the product use as part of a waterproofing assembly. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver all materials to the project site in original unopened containers, clearly marked with the manufacturer’s name and identifying numbers. B. Materials shall be stored in a neat safe manner and in a way as not to exceed the structural capacity of the building. C. Store containers, upside down on pallets in a covered or shaded area of the roof. D. Store materials elevated from contact with the ground and moisture, covered with a tarp for protection. E. Store in areas where the maximum temperature does not exceed 90 deg. F and is, at least at a minimum of 32 deg. F. F. Store all combustible materials away from heat or open flame. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Upon completion of the work, the manufacturer shall provide a 10-year warranty for the flashing system. Warranty shall be separate from the field membrane warrant and may not exceed the length of the field membrane warranty. A. The warranty shall certify the performance of the product and the consistency of its properties. The contractor shall guarantee all work against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of final acceptance. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 PRIMER: A. Primer: Per manufacturer’s written recommendations. 2.2 FLASH FLEECE: A. 8 inch reinforcement used at change of plane junctures as well as upturns and downturns. 2.3 ALSAN FLASHING: A. A flexible, high-performance, watertight, puncture and UV resistant ready to use one-component polyurethane resin used in waterproofing liquid-applied membrane applications. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Installing Contractor shall examine substrates, areas, and conditions for compliance with requirements and other conditions affecting performance and submit a report in writing to the Construction Manager or Architect that all substrates, areas, and conditions are in conformance with the manufacturer’s requirements for the installation of the waterproof membrane. 1. Do not proceed with installation until after the minimum concrete curing period recommended by waterproofing manufacturer. 2. Verify that substrate is visibly dry and free of moisture. Test for capillary moisture by plastic sheet method according to ASTM D 4263. a. Submit test locations, report findings and membrane installation recommendations writing to the Construction Manager or Architect. 3. Notify Architect in writing of anticipated problems using waterproofing over substrate. 4. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION A. Refer to ASTM D 5295 Standard Guide for Preparation of Concrete Surfaces for Bonded Membranes. Clean, prepare, and treat substrates according to manufacturer's written instructions. Provide clean, dust-free, and dry substrates for waterproofing application. C. Mask off adjoining surfaces not receiving waterproofing to prevent spillage and overspray affecting other construction. D. Remove grease, oil, bitumen, form-release agents, paints, curing compounds, and other penetrating contaminants or film-forming coatings from concrete. E. Remove fins, ridges, mortar, and other projections and fill honeycomb, aggregate pockets, holes, and other voids. F. Prepare, fill, prime, and treat joints and cracks in substrates. Remove dust and dirt from joints and cracks according to ASTM D 4258. G. Prepare, treat, and seal vertical and horizontal surfaces at terminations and penetrations through waterproofing and at drains and protrusions. 3.3 ALSAN FLASHING APPLICATION A. Base Coat: 1. Apply Alsan Flashing at a thickness of 20 wet mils or approximately 1.25 gal. per 100 square foot. 2. Extend coverage of the Alsan Flashing one inch beyond any proposed location of Flash Fleece reinforcement. 3. Apply Alsan Flashing to the surface of the field membrane 4 to 6 inches minimum. 4. Apply without folds or wrinkles and embed into wet base coat. Do not allow a skim coat to form on the base coat before the Flash Fleece is applied. 5. Immediately apply a coat of Alsan Flashing over the Flash Fleece at a thickness of 20 wet mils or 125 square foot per gallon. Completely embed Flash Fleece in Alsan Flashing. B. Second Coat: 1. Allow base coat to dry for a minimum of two to twelve hours before applying second coat. a. Allow more than minimum time for drying in cool weather conditions or periods of high humidity. b. If base coat is exposed for more than 12 hours, priming of the base coat will be required before application of the second coat. 2. Apply the second coat over the entire base coat at a wet mil thickness of 25 mils or approximately 125 square foot per gallon. 3. Do not apply when base coat surface temperature exceeds 187 deg. F. or -40 deg. F. C. Finish coat: MATT THE MILLER’S; CARMEL CITY CENTER; SUITE 101 07 54 00 - CARMEL CITY CENTER Date 03.26.12 LIQUID-APPLIED POLYURETHANE FLASHING MEMBRANE MATT THE MILLER’S; CARMEL CITY CENTER; SUITE 101 1. Allow the second coat to dry for a minimum of 2 hours, but not more than 12 hours before applying finish cost. a. Allow more than minimum time for drying in cool weather conditions or periods of high humidity. 2. Do not apply when second coat surface temperature exceeds 187 deg. F. or -40 deg. F 3. Apply the finish coat over the entire base coat at a wet mil thickness of 25 mils or approximately 125 square foot per gallon. 4. The finish coat may be exposed or may be treated with colored ceramic granules pressed into the finished coat. a. Allow 45 minutes for the finish coat to set up before pressing granules into finish coat. D. The contractor shall inspect the completed work each day. Any wrinkles or void in the side or head laps must be cut and patched. E. Terminate the day’s work in a manner approved by the manufacturer. 3.4 CLEANING A. Remove all refuse and materials from the site, and dispose of in an approved manner. B. Repair any finished areas damaged by liquid-applied flashing application, including removal of any markings caused by, or related the liquid-applied flashing application process. 3.5 QUALITY CONTROL A. REPORTS 1. Installation Contractor shall submit a written daily report of work completed that documents the location and scope of work on a drawing along with appropriate photographs and weather report to the Construction Manager or Architect. 3.9 PROTECTION AND CLEANING A. Do not permit foot or vehicular traffic on unprotected liquid-applied flashing. B. Protect liquid-applied flashing from damage and wear during remainder of construction period. C. Clean spillage and soiling from adjacent construction using cleaning agents and procedures recommended by manufacturer of affected construction.
