SECTION 08 87 00 - GLAZING SURFACE FILMS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section includes solar control film applied to existing glazing.
B. Related Requirements:
1. Division 08 Section "Glazing."
1.3 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS
A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.
1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data sheets for each product to be used including:
1. Construction details, material descriptions, installation methods, storage and handling
requirements, preparation instructions and recommendations.
B. Shop Drawings:
1. Include plans, elevations and details.
C. Samples for Verification: For each type of product.
1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
A. Qualification Data: For applicator and manufacturer.
B. Product Certificates: For each type of glazing surface film.
C. Product Test Reports: For each type of glazing surface film, by a qualified testing agency.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.”

B. Installer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.”
C. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals to demonstrate
aesthetic effects, to set quality standards for materials and execution.
1. Build mockup of typical glazing surface film system as shown on Drawings.
2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract
Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations
in writing.
3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the
completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Manufacturer shall ensure proper quality control during production, shipping and inventory.
B. Deliver materials to Project Site with manufacturer’s labels intact and legible.
C. Store products indoors in manufacturer’s unopened packaging until ready for installation.
1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits
recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under
environmental conditions outside manufacturer’s absolute limits.
1.9 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer warrants materials and workmanship against defect
after completion and final acceptance of work.
1. Repair defects from faulty materials and workmanship developed during guarantee
period or replace with new materials, at Owner’s expense.
2. Warranty covers the following:
a. Film will maintain transmittance/reflective properties without cracking, crazing,
delamination peeling or discoloration.
3. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of substantial completion.
PART 2 - RODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide manufacturers and products
listed below.

A. Glazing Surface Film System: Opaque mylar film system adhered to existing 1/4 inch thick
tempered glass.
1. Refer to Specification Section 08 80 00 for glass.
2.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Provide system that complies with the following:
1. Solar transmittance: 0 per cent.
2. Thickness: Not less than 2.0 mils.
3. U-Value: 1.04-1.10.
2.4 PRODUCTS
A. Glazing Surface Film System:
1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide one of the following:
a. Solar Gard Black Opaque Solar Control Film.
b. NV-15 Night Vision Film with Fasara Milano Decorative/Privacy Glazing Film.
2. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the
following:
a. Bekaert Specialty Films LLC, 4540 View Ridge Ave.; San Diego, CA 9212; Tel.:
877.273.4364.
b. 3M Window Films; 3M Center Bldg. 0223-02-5-24, St. Paul, MN 55144-1000; Tel.:
651.737.1053.
B. Color: As selected by Architect from full range of industry colors and color densities.
C. Film Material:
1. Optically clear metalized polyester film that may be laminated to a clear polyester film.
2. Provide uniform film, without noticeable pin holes, streaks, thin spots, scratches, banding,
or other optical defects. Variation in total transmission across with, at any portion along
length, shall not exceed 2 per cent over average. Density of film across web is not to
exceed plus or minus 2 per cent. Provide film with no evidence of coating voids.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrates, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation
tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Under the project conditions. Clean and prepare installation surfaces using the methods
recommended by the film manufacturer for achieving best results for substrate

3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install window film per manufacturer’s written instructions.
3.4 PROTECTION
A. Protect installed products until completion of project.
