Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes prefinished polyester glass reinforced sheets. B. Related Requirements: 1. Division 09 Section "Gypsum Board" for substrate information. 1.3 REFERENCES A. American Society for Testing and Materials: Standard Specifications (ASTM). 1. ASTM D256: Izod Impact Strength. 2. ASTM D570: Water Absorption. 3. ASTM D638: Tensile Strength and Tensile Modulus. 4. ASTM E 84: Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials. 1.4 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.5 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for decorative reinforced fiberglass wall panels. B. Shop Drawings: 1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and attachment details. C. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color and texture specified. Product Schedule: Refer to Finish Legend and Room Finish Schedule on Drawings. 1.6 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Coordination Drawings: Plans, elevations and other details, drawn to scale, on which the following items are shown and coordinated with each other, using input from installers of the items involved: B. Qualification Data: For Installer and manufacturer. C. Product Certificates: For each type of product. D. Conform to building code requirements for interior finish for smoke and flame spread requirements as tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. E. Sanitary Standards: System components and finishes to comply with: 1. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements for food preparation facilities; incidental contact. 2. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 1999 Food Code 6.101.11. 1.7 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For decorative reinforced fiberglass wall panels.to include in maintenance manuals. 1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: 1. Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Installer Qualifications: 1. Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” 1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Deliver materials factory packaged on strong pallets. B. Store panels and trim lying flat, under cover and protected from the elements. Allow panels to acclimate to room temperature (70 deg. F) for 48 hours prior to installation. 1.10 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Building is to be fully enclosed prior to installation with sufficient heat (70 deg F) and ventilation consistent with good working conditions for finish work. During installation and for not less than 48 hours before, maintain an ambient temperature and relative humidity within limits required by type of adhesive used and recommendation of adhesive manufacturer. 1. Provide ventilation to disperse fumes during application of adhesive as recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. 1.11 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace products that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: One year from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide the following: 1. FRP with sani-coat. B. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following: 1. Marlite; 202 Harger Street, Dover, OH 44622. Ph.: 800.377.1221. 2.2 MATERIALS A. PANELS 1. Fiberglass reinforced thermosetting polyester resin panel sheets complying with ASTM D 5319. a. Coating: Multi-layer print, primer and finish coats. b. Width: 4’-0”. c. Length: As indicated on Drawings. d. Tolerance: Length and width: +/- 1/8 inch. 2. Properties: Resistant to rot, corrosion, staining, denting, peeling and splintering. a. Flexural Strength: 1.0 x 10 4 psi per ASTM D 790. b. Flexural Modulus: 3.1 x 10 5 psi per ASTM D 790. c. Tensile Strength: 7.0 x 10 3 per ASTM D 638. d. Tensile Modulus: 1.6 x 10 5 psi per ASTM D 638. e. Water Absorption: 0.72% per ASTM D 570. f. Barcol Hardness (scratch resistance): 35 55 as per ASTM D 2583. g. Izod Impact Strength: 72 ftlbs/in. ASTM D 256. 3. Back Surface: Smooth. 4. Front Finish: As indicated on Drawings. 5. Color: Refer to Finish Legend on Drawings. B. BASE 1. Marlite Base Molding. C. Aluminum Trim: Heavy weight extruded aluminum 6063-T5 alloy prefinished at factory. 2. PVC extruded trim. 3. Stainless steel. 2.3 ACCESSORIES A. Fasteners: Non-staining nylon drive rivets. B. Adhesive: Marlite construction adhesive complying with ASTM C 557. C. Sealant: Marlite brand silicone sealant. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for maximum moisture content, installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Examine products or materials before installation. Reject products or materials that are wet, moisture damaged, or mold damaged. C. Verify that stud spacing does not exceed 24 “ o.c. D. Examine walls for suitable conditions where product will be installed. E. Prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance. F. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Repair any substrate defects prior to installation. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Comply with manufacturer’s recommended procedures for installation of FRP products. B. Cut sheets to meet supports allowing 1/8 inch clearance for every 8 foot of panel. 1. Cut and drill with carbide tipped saw blades or drill bits, or cut with shears. 2. Pre-drill fastener holes 1/8 inch oversize with high speed drill bit. a. Space at 8 inches maximum on center at perimeter, approximately 1 inch from panel edge. b. Space rows at 16 inches on center in field, with fasteners spaced 12 inches on center maximum. Apply panels to board substrate, above base, vertically oriented with seams plumb and pattern aligned with adjoining panels. 1. Install panels with manufacturer’s recommended gap for panel field and corner joints. a. Adhesive trowel and application method to conform to adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations. b. Drive fasteners for snug fit. Do not over-tighten. D. Apply panel moldings to all panel edges using silicone sealant providing for required clearances. 1. All moldings must provide for a minimum 1/8 inch of panel expansion at joints and edges, to insure proper installation. 2. Apply sealant to all moldings, channels and joints between the system and different materials to assure watertight installation. 3.4 PROTECTION A. Remove and replace FRP products that are wet, moisture damaged, or mold damaged. 3.5 CLEANING A. Remove excess sealant from panels and moldings. Wipe panel down using a damp cloth and mild soap solution or cleaner. B. Refer to manufacturer’s specific cleaning recommendations. Do not use abrasive cleaners. END OF SECTION 09 77 20
