Section Includes: 1. The work included in this division of the specifications includes, but is not limited to, all labor, material and equipment to completely install all electrical work throughout the entire project as shown on the Contract Documents. B. Products Installed But Not Supplied Under This Section: 1. This Contractor is responsible for connection of equipment supplied by other Con� tractors as indicated in the Contract Documents. 2. This Contractor is responsible for connection of equipment supplied by Owner as in� dicated in the Contract Documents. 1.02 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. B. General Requirements specifically applicable to Division 26, 27 and 28, in addition to Division 0 and Division 1 provisions. C. Division 1 – Submittals. D. Division 1 � Temporary Electricity. E. UL – Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (NRTL). F. ETL – Intertek Laboratory (NTRL). G. NFPA�70E, Latest edition – National Electrical Safety Code. 1.04 DEFINITIONS A. EPDM: Ethylene�propylene�diene terpolymer rubber. B. Where colors are indicated or noted to be selected by the Architect it shall be interpreted to mean custom color, optional color, or color selected from standard RAL paint chart. 1.05 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONS A. Refer to specific specification sections for system descriptions. B. Unless specifically indicated otherwise, this Contractor is responsible for work assigned to Contract as indicated in the Specifications and as Shown on the Drawings 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. General: 1. Refer to Division 01, Division 26, 27 and 28 technical sections for additional requirements. 2. Submit separate sets of submittals for each separate building of the project. 3. Any submittal not meeting all specified requirements will be returned without review. 4. Each contractor shall submit shop drawings as stated in Division 1 Sections pertaining to submission of shop drawings, product data, samples, and as specified herein. 5. Product Data: For sleeve seals. B. All submissions shall be processed electronically using PDF format with maximum 10MB file size. Transmit to submittals@lacquis.com in accordance with Division 01 Section "Submittals." (Alternatively, transmit large file size submittals via Leapfile: http://lacquis.leapfile.net. Select the secure upload option and type cheflin@lacquis.com as the recipient and follow the onscreen directions.) C. Approval of shop drawings does not relieve the contractor of the responsibility for ordering proper quantities and miscellaneous appurtenances required for operation and/or installation of the respective material or equipment nor from the responsibility of complying with all elements of the Contract Documents. D. Provide specific information with each submittal as stated in the respective specification sections. E. The following General Information is required with each submittal as applicable. 1. Full manufacturer’s model name and number of each item. 2. Equipment performance, physical size by dimension, and construction data. 3. Location of connection points for external piping, ductwork, and electrical connections. 4. Complete wiring diagrams and connection identifications. 5. Contractor’s stamp, signature and date shall be affixed to submittal drawing indicating his review and approval. F. Shop Drawings/Product Data: 1. Submit copies of the shop drawings and product data for All items on the approved manufacturer’s material list (Exhibit “A”) or as requested by the Architect. 2. Highlight product data to indicate product proposed for use and compliance to Contract Documents. Product data not highlighted will be returned without review. 3. With each product data submittal provide front index pages that include the following: a. Engineer’s project title and number. b. Contractor’s name, address and telephone number. c. Column style listing of each product item included in the submittal with product manufacturer name, catalog number, and description. d. Space for Engineer’s review stamp. Closeout Submittals: 1. Operation and Maintenance Instructions and Data: a. Submit two (2) hard copies and one (1) electronic copy on compact disk complete sets of manufacturer operating and maintenance instructions, parts list, and maintenance and repair data for all electrical equipment requiring instructions, inspection, and/or periodic maintenance. b. Submit operation and maintenance instructions and data under provisions of Division 1 and as indicated in all Sections of Divisions 26, 27 and 28. 2. Project Record Documents: a. Submit under provisions of Division 1 and as indicated in all Sections of Divisions 26, 27 and 28. b. Revise all rough�in drawings to “As Built” status at the project completion. Drawings are to include as a minimum: 1) Complete set of electrical drawings including schedules and power distribution diagrams. 2) All changes to the electrical layout and Contract Documents, including architectural floor plans, by addenda, supplemental instructions, change orders, and field changes. 3) Actual installed locations of all electrical equipment. 4) Actual circuit numbers. 5) All underground conduit locations. c. Project record drawings format shall be as follows: 1) Drawings must be drawn on a CAD system. Hand drawn or scanned copies of drawings are not acceptable. 2) Drawings must be submitted as electronic drawing files in AutoCAD 2000 or newer format on CD�ROM. Files that are not editable (DWF, PDF, etc.) or in other formats (DXF, etc.) are not acceptable. 3) Each project drawing shall be submitted as a separate drawing file. Zipped files or files containing multiple drawings are not acceptable. d. Provide the following in the title block area of each drawing: 1) This Contractor’s stamp or information block that is to include, as a minimum, the Contractor’s official business name, address and telephone number. 2) A label identifying the drawing as “Project Record Documents” and the record drawing submission date. e. Submit the following “As�Built” drawings record documents: 1) Two copies of CD�ROM disk set each containing electronic files of the complete set of the project “As�Built” drawings. Install work using procedures defined in NECA Standards of Installation. 1.08 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver, store, protect, and handle products to site under provisions of Division 1. B. Accept equipment. Inspect for damage. C. Protect all materials from damage. Store all materials indoors at all times, unless other storage arrangements are approved by the Engineer. D. Keep materials stored in such manner so as not to interfere with the process of the work of other Contractors or with the operation of existing facilities. 1.09 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Perform all work to conform to or exceed the minimum requirements of codes/standards referenced in Paragraph 1.03 References and all federal, state, local and municipal codes and ordinances. Comply with the directions of all properly appointed authorities having jurisdiction. B. Installations shown on Contract Documents that exceed the minimum requirements of the referenced codes/standards or other regulations shall be installed as indicated. C. Furnish products listed and classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) as suitable for the purposes indicated. D. Measurement Procedures: 1. Unless specific measurements are indicated in the Contract Documents, this contractor is responsible for field verifying and coordinating all locations, placements and adequate clearances for materials and equipment installed under work of this contract. 2. Where specific measurements, offsets, etc. are indicated, contractor shall field verify and coordinate these with existing conditions, work of other contractors and construction. 1.10 COORDINATION A. Coordinate arrangement, mounting, and support of electrical equipment: 1. To allow maximum possible headroom unless specific mounting heights that reduce headroom are indicated. 2. To provide for ease of disconnecting the equipment with minimum interference to other installations. To allow right of way for piping and conduit installed at required slope. 4. So connecting raceways, cables, wireways, cable trays, and busways will be clear of obstructions and of the working and access space of other equipment. B. Coordinate installation of required supporting devices and set sleeves in cast�in�place concrete, masonry walls, and other structural components as they are constructed. C. Coordinate location of access panels and doors for electrical items that are behind finished surfaces or otherwise concealed. Access doors and panels are specified in Division 08 Section "Access Doors and Frames." D. Coordinate sleeve selection and application with selection and application of firestopping specified in Division 07 Section "Penetration Firestopping". 1.11 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING A. Coordinate the work specified in this Division under the provisions of Division 1. B. Before installing any work, check the drawings for exact dimensions and see that the electrical work does not interfere with clearance required for beams, foundations, finished columns, pilasters, partitions, piping, ductwork, etc. After work is installed and it develops that interferences occur, which have not been called to the Architect's, Engineer’s or Construction Manager's attention before the installation, make such changes to the electrical work, at the expense of this Contractor, as requested by the Architect/Engineer. C. The location and arrangement of the various parts of the installation are indicated on the Contract Documents. Install all parts as approximately shown. Make all changes necessary to pass immovable obstructions without additional cost to the Owner. However, do not decrease sizes or quantities, or make radical changes in any part of the installation without the written consent of the Engineer. D. Prior to installation, issue a print to the other Contractors of the project showing exact location of light fixtures, outlets and supporting devices. E. Check the exact location of switches, outlets, panels, cabinets, etc. Where said equipment may become inaccessible if installed where indicated, relocate said equipment as requested by the Engineer, at no additional cost to the Owner. F. For equipment requiring connections by other contractors, provide Engineer approved submittals to the appropriate Contractors. Approval submittals are to depict the required connections. 1.12 WARRANTY A. Provide warranty under provisions of Divisions 0 and 1. Honor component warranties for the term established by the Manufacturer, if greater than the warranty period indicated in Divisions 0 and 1. 1.13 SYSTEM STARTUP A. Contractor is responsible for startup of all systems under this covered under this Contract. 1. Refer to specific sections for additional requirements. 1.14 OWNER’S INSTRUCTION A. At the time that any electrical system included under this contract is released for operation to the Owner, provide a competent instructor to advise the maintenance and/or operating personnel as to the proper maintenance and operation of all components of the system. B. Owner instruction shall not occur until electrical system component has been completely reviewed, programmed and identified issues resolved. Owner instruction on incomplete or less than fully functional systems is not acceptable and will have to be repeated once issues are resolved.. PART 2 � PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Substitution of Equal Products 1. No substitutions will be considered, except in accordance with the following: a. Contractor shall submit, in writing, request for approval of equal products a minimum of ten (10) working days prior to Bid, or as otherwise indicated under Division 1. b. Request shall include: 1) Product for which substitution is being requested. 2) Manufacturer’s product data sheets. 3) Fabrication and detail drawings. 4) Other supporting material substantiating equality of proposed product. 5) Impact of proposed product on construction time and other Contractors. c. Engineer shall be the sole judge of acceptability of equality of proposed product, and Engineer’s decision shall be final.. 2.02 EXISTING PRODUCTS A. Where existing products are to remain and to be reused, expanded or otherwise modified, ensure that the new materials are compatible with the existing. Materials and products listed in the Contract Documents establish the standard of quality required. B. Furnish products listed and classified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. as suitable for purposes specified and shown. C. All materials shall be new, complete with manufacturer's guarantee or warranty and shall be approved by UL if a standard has been established by that agency for the type of material. D. All materials of the same type or class shall be the product of one manufacturer. For example, all panelboards shall be from the same manufacturer, all lighting switches from the same manufacturer, etc. E. Materials shall also comply with all applicable standards of the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association, Insulated Power Cable Engineers Association, National Electrical Safety Code, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Edison Electrical Institute, American Insurance Association, National Board of Fire Underwriters, National Fire Protection Association, National Safety Council, National Bureau of Standards, the National Electrical Code and the Williams�Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act of l970. Such standards are hereby made a part of these specifications. 2.04 TOUCHUP PAINT A. For equipment: Equipment manufacturer’s paint selected to match installed equipment finish. B. Galvanized Surfaces: Zinc�rich paint recommended by item manufacturer. PART 3 � EXECUTION 3.01 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT A. Work shall be performed by individuals skilled in work of specific trade involved. 3.02 EXAMINATION A. Contractor shall verify existing and site conditions prior to commencing any work. 1. Contractor shall immediately bring to the attention of the Engineer any discrepancies found between the Contact Documents and site conditions. 2. Contractor shall be responsible for verifying all dimensions and installation requirements for materials and equipment to be provided. Work indicated in the Contract Documents is to provide the intent of the work required. 1. Unless specifically dimensioned or otherwise noted, equipment locations and connection points are approximate and are to be verified by contractor as part of the work of the contract. 2. Contractor shall be responsible for verifying all dimensions and installation requirements for materials and equipment provided. 3.03 PREPARATION A. Contractor is responsible for protection of existing and new construction during work under his Contract. 3.04 GENERAL A. Perform all work in accordance with industry standards of practice and workmanship as described in ANSI/NECA 1�2006 – Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting. B. All work shall present a neat mechanical appearance when completed. C. All methods and techniques of installation shall be subject to the approval of the architect. D. Paint all surface mounted or otherwise exposed conduit, raceways, surface raceways, boxes, and electrical equipment occurring in finished areas to match the surfaces on which they are installed, under provisions of Division 9. E. Measure indicated mounting heights to bottom of unit for suspended items and to top of unit for wall�mounting items. F. Headroom Maintenance: If mounting heights or other location criteria are not indicated, arrange and install components and equipment to provide maximum possible headroom consistent with these requirements. G. Equipment: Install to facilitate service, maintenance, and repair or replacement of components of both electrical equipment and other nearby installations. Connect in such a way as to facilitate future disconnecting with minimum interference with other items in the vicinity. H. No energized conductors shall be exposed at any time except when immediate area is under the direct supervision of a qualified electrician. I. Only UL approved tools shall be used at the project. J. All equipment labeling and system programming shall utilize and display the Owner's room numbers. Do not use the Architect’s room numbers.. K. Right of Way: Give to piping systems installed at a required slope. Matt the Miller’s Carmel, IN L’Acquis Number: 12056 Section 260500 Basic Electrical Requirements Page 10 of 13 March 23, 2012 3.05 CUTTING, PATCHING, DAMAGE, AND MUTILATION A. The General Contractor is responsible for all cutting indicated on the Architectural Drawings related to installation or removal of work of the Mechanical and Electrical Trades. All required cutting may not be shown. Any additional cutting and patching required, which is not indicated on the Architectural Drawings, is the responsibility of the trade requiring the access, as provided for in the specifications. B. Properly patch and repair cuts made into or penetration made through fire rated walls, floors, and ceilings to maintain their proper fire rating. Penetrations of fire barriers are to be sealed under Division 7. C. Roof openings required by this Contractor that are not shown on the architectural or structural drawings shall be cut and, if necessary, reinforced under Division 7 and paid for by this Contractor. D. All undue or untimely damage or mutilation of masonry, plaster and other finished surfaces around conduit, equipment, etc., done by this Contractor shall be repaired by the proper Contractor and paid for by this Contractor. E. This Contractor shall be responsible for damage to or mutilation of the work of the other Contractors or to the building and its contents caused by equipment installed by him. F. The finish of any item that has been marred, scratched or damaged in any way by this Contractor shall be repaired and repainted at the expense of this Contractor, and to the satisfaction of the Architect and/or Owner. G. All finish painting shall be done under Division 9. H. Cut, channel, chase, and drill floors, walls, partitions, ceilings, and other surfaces required to permit electrical installations. Perform cutting by skilled mechanics of trades involved. I. Repair and refinish disturbed finish materials and other surfaces to match adjacent undisturbed surfaces. Install new fireproofing where existing firestopping has been disturbed. Repair and refinish materials and other surfaces by skilled mechanics of trades involved. 3.06 TEMPORARY UTILITIES A. Provide temporary electricity and lighting under provisions of Division 1. 3.07 INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE A. Make all changes in services or service shut�downs so as to provide a minimum of interference with operation of services in the building. When changes require shut�down of building services, notify the Owner not less than twenty�four (24) hours in advance and obtain approval from the Owner/Pproper Building authorities and Architect before making changes. Give duration and nature of shut�down. C. Obtain approval from the Owner/Proper Building Authorities and Architect for all temporary arrangements. 3.08 RESPONSIBILITY A. This Contractor's responsibility shall not end with the installation and/or connection of the various apparatus. Provide electricians to properly adjust the various electrical devices, make the required tests, etc., until such time as the entire electrical installation functions properly in every detail. B. No energized conductors shall be exposed at any time except when the immediate area is under the direct supervision of a qualified electrician. Only UL approved tools, shall be used at the project. 3.09 ACCESSIBILITY A. Locate all equipment which must be serviced, operated or maintained in fully accessible positions. Minor deviations from the Drawings may be made to allow for better accessibility, but changes of magnitude or which involve extra cost shall not be made without the approval of the Engineer. B. Allow ample space for removal of all parts that may require replacement or service in the future. 3.10 LABELING AND PROGRAMMING A. All equipment labeling and system programming shall utilize and display the Owner's room numbers. Do not use the Architect’s room numbers. 3.11 REPAIR/RESTORATION A. Contractor is responsible for any and all repairs of existing and new construction caused by work of this Contract. B. Contractor is responsible for repair of any and all of the materials installed under this Contract that are faulty or damaged. 3.12 REFINISHING AND TOUCHUP PAINTING A. Clean damaged and disturbed areas and apply primer, intermediate, and finish coats to suit the degree of damage at each location. B. Follow paint manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation and for timing and application of successive coats. Repair damage to galvanized finishes with zinc�rich paint recommended by manufacturer. D. Repair damage to PVC or paint finishes with matching touchup coating recommended by manufacturer. 3.13 REINSTALLATION A. Contractor shall re�install any and all work performed under this Contract which does not meet the requirements of the Contract Documents. 1. Such re�installation shall be done at the Contractor’s expense. 2. Such work shall be done on a schedule submitted to and approved by the Engineer. 3.14 FIRESTOPPING A. Apply firestopping to penetrations of fire�rated floor and wall assemblies for electrical installations to restore original fire�resistance rating of assembly. Firestopping materials and installation requirements are specified in Division 07 Section "Penetration Firestopping." 3.15 DEMOLITION A. Protect existing electrical equipment and installations indicated to remain. If damaged or disturbed in the course of the Work, remove damaged portions and install new products of equal capacity, quality, and functionality. B. Accessible Work: Remove exposed electrical equipment and installations, indicated to be demolished, in their entirety. C. Abandoned Work: Cut and remove buried raceway and wiring, indicated to be abandoned in place, 2 inches below the surface of adjacent construction. Cap raceways and patch surface to match existing finish. D. Remove demolished material from Project site. E. Remove, store, clean, reinstall, reconnect, and make operational components indicated for relocation. 3.16 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Contractor is responsible for site inspections, adjustments, starting and documentation of materials and equipment as indicated in the Contract Documents. B. Where specifically indicated, Contractor shall arrange, and pay for, the Manufacturer’s Field Services to start�up, inspect, or otherwise verify installation and operation of specific equipment. Contractor is responsible for clean�up as indicated under requirements of Division 1. 3.18 DEMONSTRATION A. Contractor is responsible for coordinating demonstrations and training sessions. 1. Sessions shall be of the type and minimum length as indicated under specific sections. 2. Demonstration and training sessions shall be scheduled at the Owner’s convenience and coordinated with the Engineer. 3. Demonstration and training sessions shall occur at time of first beneficial use of such equipment and systems, unless specifically requested otherwise by Engineer. END OF SECTION 260500
