PART 1 � GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A. Section includes:
1. Electrical demolition.
2. Selective demolition.
3. Disposal of removed materials.

1.04 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
A. Systems not indicated to be removed, and not partially maintained, are to be removed
complete.
B. Electrical demolition to be performed to maintain any existing equipment, devices, or
circuits, are to remain in complete and operational condition after completion of work.
1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Qualification:
1. Workman to be skilled in trades required to perform work, and certified as
required, for removal and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials.

1. Remove, store, transport and dispose of hazardous and toxic material removed
under work of this Contractor in strict accordance with all requirements of
Federal, State and Local Jurisdictional Codes, Regulations and Guidelines.
C. Certifications:
1. Provide paperwork and documentation that all requirements for proper disposal
of hazardous and toxic materials removed under work of this Contractor have
been removed, stored, transported and disposed of in full and complete
accordance with all Federal, State and Local Jurisdictional Codes, Regulations
and Guidelines.
a. Such certifications and documentations to be in format as required by
Federal, State and Local Jurisdiction and shall be signed, and certified by
the Contractor.
D. Pre�demolition Meetings:
1. Attend any pre�construction meetings.
2. Review project schedule thoroughly prior to starting any demolition. Review
new construction work and phasing to ensure that demolition work will be
performed in sequence with new work so that new work is complete and
operational when scheduled.
3. Review items to be salvaged as indicated in Contract Documents and verify with
Owner’s Representative.
a. Create plan and documentation for removal, storage and turn�over of
salvaged items to Owner
1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Handle materials in strict accordance with this section and all Regulatory Requirements.
1.07 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Project Environmental Requirements::
1. Contractor is responsible for handling all hazardous or toxic materials in strict
accordance with Federal, State or Local Jurisdictional Codes, Regulations and
Guidelines.
B. Existing Conditions:
1. Contractor is responsible for thoroughly reviewing existing conditions of project
site, and investigating existing materials that could contain hazardous or toxic
materials as defined by Federal, State or Local Jurisdictional Codes, Regulations
and Guidelines.

C. Demolition work shown on Drawings is based on casual field observation and is to
demonstrate intent of the work required by the Contract Documents.
D. Contractor to verify field measurements and existing circuiting arrangements.
E. Contractor to verify that abandoned wiring and equipment serve only abandoned facilities
1.08 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Sequence and Schedule work in accordance with Division 00, Division 01 and
Division 2.
PART 2 � PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS
A. As indicated under individual sections for materials.
2.02 EXISTING PRODUCTS
A. Review existing products to be partially removed to ensure compatibility with new
products to be provided.
2.03 MATERIALS
A. Materials and Equipment for Patching and Extending Work: As specified in individual
Sections.
PART 3 � EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Site Verification of Conditions: Beginning of demolition means Contractor accepts
existing conditions.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Protection: Protect existing surfaces, finishes, equipment, devices and other items to
remain through and at completion of project to prevent damage during work of the
project.
B. Preparation:
1. Disconnect electrical systems in walls, floors, and ceilings scheduled for
removal.

2. Provide temporary wiring and connections to maintain existing systems in
service during construction. When work must be performed on energized
equipment or circuits, use personnel experienced in such operations..
C. Support existing lighting fixtures that will be utilized to provide temporary lighting on
this project.
3.03 DEMOLITION
A. Demolish and extend existing electrical work under provisions of Section 02 41 30 and
this Section.
B. Remove existing installations to accommodate new construction.
C. In areas where existing ceilings are being removed and new ceilings are being provided,
support all existing lighting fixtures, speakers, fire alarm devices, security system
devices, conduits, wiring, and other electrical equipment that are indicated to remain
and/or be installed in the new ceilings.
D. Maintain access to existing electrical installations which remain active.
3.04 EXTENSION OF EXISTING ELECTRICAL WORK
A. Relocate and extend existing installations to accommodate new construction.
B. Extend existing installations using materials and methods compatible with existing
electrical installations or as specified.
C. Where existing receptacles, switches and other electrical devices and equipment are not
indicated to be removed, or are specifically indicated to remain:
1. Protect existing devices and electrical equipment from damage during demolition
and new construction work.
2. Where receptacles, devices or other electrical equipment to remain are fed from a
receptacle, device or other electrical equipment to be removed, re�feed remaining
receptacles, devices and other electrical equipment to maintain operation. All
materials and work required to re�feed existing receptacles, devices and other
electrical equipment is to be in strict accordance with the Contract Documents
and Code requirements.
3. Where existing light switches or lighting control stations are to remain, extend or
otherwise reconnect existing switches legs or control wiring removed as part of
demolition of switching or control stations to be removed.
4. Label existing receptacles, devices and other electrical equipment remaining in
accordance with the Contract Documents.
D. Where existing devices and other electrical equipment are being removed:

1. Remove abandoned wiring to source of supply.
2. Remove exposed abandoned conduit, including abandoned conduit above
accessible ceiling finishes. Cut conduit flush with walls and floors.
3. Disconnect and remove abandoned devices. Remove abandoned boxes if conduit
serving them is abandoned and removed. Provide blank cover plates for
abandoned boxes which are not removed. This includes boxes for wiring
devices, clocks, wall mounted speakers, etc.
4. Remove abandoned panelboards and distribution equipment.
5. Remove electrical devices and equipment serving other equipment that has been
removed.
6. Remove abandoned lighting fixtures. Remove brackets, stems, hangers, and
other accessories.
E. Review drawings of other disciplines and where equipment is noted for removal:
1. Disconnect electrical service.
2. Remove exposed conduit, including abandoned conduit above accessible ceiling
finishes. Cut concealed conduit flush with walls and floors.
3. Remove existing wiring back to the source unless otherwise noted in such a
manner as to keep any other devices or equipment, that remains, in service.>
3.05 EXISTING SWITCHBOARDS AND PANELBOARDS
A. Existing Switchboards: Where circuits are added, removed, or moved in existing
switchboards revised the circuit labeling showing revised circuiting arrangement.
B. Existing Panelboards:
1. Where circuits are added, removed, or moved in existing panelboards, provide
revised type�written circuit directory showing revised circuiting arrangement.
2. Panelboards Indicated to be modified or rewired: Clean exposed surfaces and
check tightness of electrical connections. Replace damaged circuit breakers and
provide closure plates for vacant positions.
3.06 DISPOSAL OF EXISTING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
A. This Contractor is responsible for the proper disposal of existing electrical materials and
equipment removed during the work. This may include transformers and lighting fixture
ballasts and lamps. Dispose of equipment and materials in accordance with all applicable
laws, codes, and ordinances. Provide the Architect and Owner with all required
documentation.

3.07 SALVAGE
A. Note certain items remain the property of the Owner. The Owner has first right of refusal
of all electrical equipment.
3.08 CLEANING
A. Maintain clean work area during demolition.:
1. Refer to Division 01 for additional cleaning requirements.
3.09 PROTECTION
A. Protect, maintain and extend all existing fire alarm, telephone, communication and data
systems, as required, to maintain uninterrupted operation.
