Lighting Controls –Time Clocks and Photoelectric Switches
PART 1 � GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following lighting control devices:
1. Time switches.

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
B. Section 26 05 00 � Basic Electrical Requirements.
C. Section 26 05 53 – Identification for Electrical Systems.
D. Section 26 09 29 – Lighting Contactors.
1.03 REFERENCES
A. Review the Drawings and all sections of the Specifications for equipment furnished by
other Contractors and the Owner throughout the entire project.
B. See references noted in Specification Section 26 05 00, Paragraph 1.03.
C. ANSI/NECA 1�2006 – Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting.
D. UL � Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (NRTL).
1.04 DEFINITIONS
A. LED: Light�emitting diode.
B. PIR: Passive infrared.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit shop drawings and product data under provisions of Division 01 and Section
26 05 00.
B. For each time clock, submit all electrical characteristics, including voltage, NEMA size,
control wiring diagram, and device label (e.g., TCA�1, etc.).
C. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.

D. Shop Drawings: Show installation details for light�level sensors.
1. Interconnection diagrams showing field�installed wiring.
E. Field quality�control test reports.
F. Operation and Maintenance Data: For each type of product to include in emergency,
operation, and maintenance manuals.
1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in
NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction,
and marked for intended use.
B. Lighting Contactors to be UL listed.
1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver, store and handle materials in accordance with Division 01 and Section 26 05 00.
1.08 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Sequence and Schedule work in accordance with Division 01 and Section 26 05 00.
1.09 WARRANTY
A. Warranty in accordance with requirements of Division 01 and Section 26 05 00.
PART 2 � PRODUCTS
2.01 TIME SWITCHES
A. Manufacturers.
1. Acceptable Manufacturers:
a. Intermatic, Inc..
b. Paragon Electric Co.
c. NSI/Tork.
B. Two Channel Electronic Time Switches as indicated on the drawings: Electronic, solid�
state programmable units with alphanumeric display; complying with UL 917 as
indicated on the drawings.
1. Contact Configuration: DPST.
2. Contact Rating: 2A 120V ac.

3. Circuitry: Allow connection of a photoelectric relay as substitute for on�off
function of a program.
4. Astronomic Time: All channels.
5. Automatic leap year correction.
6. Battery Backup: For schedules and time clock.
7. Permanent Schedule retention.
8. Manual override.
9. NSI/Tork: DZS200BP or approved equal.
PART 3 � EXECUTION
3.01 WIRING INSTALLATION
A. Wiring Method: Comply with Division 26 Section "Low�Voltage Electrical Power
Conductors and Cables." Minimum conduit size shall be 1/2 inch.
B. Wiring within Enclosures: Comply with NECA 1. Separate power�limited and
nonpower�limited conductors according to conductor manufacturer's written instructions.
C. Size conductors according to lighting control device manufacturer's written instructions,
unless otherwise indicated.
D. Splices, Taps, and Terminations: Make connections only on numbered terminal strips in
junction, pull, and outlet boxes; terminal cabinets; and equipment enclosures.
3.02 IDENTIFICATION
A. Identify components and power and control wiring according to Division 26 Section
"Identification for Electrical Systems."
1. Identify circuits or luminaries controlled by photoelectric and occupancy sensors
at each sensor.
B. Label time switches and contactors with a unique designation in accordance with
Specification Section 26 05 53 – Identification for Electrical Systems.
3.03 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Perform the following field tests and inspections and prepare test reports:
1. After installing time switches and sensors, and after electrical circuitry has been
energized, adjust and test for compliance with requirements.

2. Operational Test: Verify operation of each lighting control device, and adjust
time delays.
B. Lighting control devices that fail tests and inspections are defective work.
