Many metropolitan regions across the U.S. are embracing a more 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday;
entrepreneurial perspective in their identification of economic development
opportunities and effective public /private partnerships. Among the most
significant players in these ventures are anchor institutions hospitals, higher
education and cultural institutions which are local drivers of land use,
employment, purchasing and innovation. This panel of national thought
leaders and chief executives of major Indianapolis anchor institutions will
discuss and debate the role and responsibilities of anchor institutions and how
intentional and sustained collaboration between the private, public and
philanthropic sectors is leading to a new era in urban investment and city-
building.
Speakers will in include Ben Hecht and Tom Murphy. Ben Hecht is the
President CEO of Living Cities, an organization that harnesses the collective
knowledge of its 22 member foundations and financial institutions to benefit
low income people and the cities where they live. Living Cities deploys a
unique blend of more than $140 million in grants, loans and incluence to re-
engineer obsolete public systems and connect low- income people and
