EASY400 SERIES RAILING INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
SAFETY FIRST: Wear protective goggles when using power tools. Use a safety harness if
your work site is at an elevated location and a fall may cause an injury. It is the installer's
responsibility to make sure railings are assembled and installed according to these
instructions.
Tape Measure
Tools you will need: Power Drill
Drill Bit 11/64"
#2 Square or Phillips Bit
Compound Miter Saw
Speed Square
1. Examine all parts for any damage in transit. Keep the protective film for as long as practical during
the assembly. READ all the instructions before starting.
2, Examine Fig. 1 below noting the location of parts and dimensions.

Determine and mark locations of posts, which should be 39 5/8" apart (on center) for whole
(uncut) sections. Make adjustments for shorter sections. Check the length of all posts.
42 "H: The total length of a Deck post should be 40 W; length of a Fascia post should be 50 1/4".
36 "H: The total length of a Deck post should be 34 1 length of a Fascia post should be 44 1/4".
Trim posts if needed.
3. Mark and drill pilot holes for Baluster Mounting Bars
ATTENTION! Post location (line, corner, end) determines which sides need to be drilled. Using one
of the Bars as a template mark and drill holes.
42 "H: mark and drill 5 holes. The top of the bar should be at 2 3/16" from the top of the post.
36 "H: mark and drill 4 holes. The top of the bar should be at 1 from the top of the post.
4. Attach Handrail Support Brackets. Measure 3/8" from the top of a post and 3/4" from either side.
Drill 2 holes and attach the Brackets using two provided #10 x screws. The long side of the

bracket should be flush with the top of the post.
5. Assemble Sections. Drive provided #8x1" screws through pre drilled holes in the Baluster
Mounting Bars into screw chases in the Balusters. Slightly drill out the pre drilled holes if necessary.
Tip: For easier assembly put a Bar on two supports, secure temporarily with clamps or screws. Insert all screws in the
holes; drive screws in the channels. Do not over tighten.
6. Post Installation Notes
ATTENTION! Posts must be attached to framing members. For proper safe installation you must
add sufficient blocking, backing plate, or other reinforcements as needed to reliably support posts.
Deck mount posts: the surface under post flanges must be flat. If necessary holes in the flange
can be drilled out for 1/4" fasteners. To avoid material stress all fasteners must be attached
perpendicular to the flange. Never try to "adjust" posts by attempting to bend after attaching posts to
the deck.
Fascia posts: make sure posts are at the same height above the deck: measure and mark 10"
from the bottom of the post (this is your deck level). Insert plastic plugs into the bottom ends of the
posts. Drill small drainage holes in the plugs centers. Make sure all posts are plumb.
ACQ Lumber: Check with your lumber supplier to determine if your newer deck is built with ACQ lumber. Its copper
based preservative has a corrosive effect on aluminum, and a physical barrier (thick poly film, etc.) is required for post
surfaces in direct contact with your deck.
Attach posts to the deck using stainless steel hardware that is appropriate for the site conditions
(examples: stainless steel lag screws, hex bolts, etc., not included).
7. Starting at the center of a side of the deck install two posts; attach an assembled Baluster Section
to the two posts. Tighten all connections. Continue towards the ends.
g. Cut Rails. Start with longer rails. Plans splice locations over posts. Leave appropriate extra lengths
for angle cuts. For best results use a miter saw with a thin kerf carbide blade. Drill weep holes on
the bottom side of the handrails near centers of the sections.
9. Install Rails: you will need 1 or 2 helpers for
this operation:
Splice Connections. For longer spans
assemble rails using Splice Connectors. Insert a
Splice Connector 4" into one of the handrail
pieces. Drill a pilot hole thought the bottom of
the handrail and the Connector, about 3" from
the edge, or determine the Handrail Support
Brackets holes locations (see Step 4 above).
Drive a #10x 3/4" screw through both parts. Slide
the other piece of the handrail onto the
connector and fasten in the same fashion.
Corner Connections: Draw a center line on the
bottom of the rails to be connected at a corner.
See Fig 2 for drilling locations. Mark and drill
pilot holes in both rails. Insert and attach Corner
Connectors to the longer rails using two #8x1"
screws per side.

10. Starting at shorter sides place assembled rails on top of the posts. Temporarily secure the rails in

place with masking tape, leaving some slack so you are able to lift the corner side of that rail about
1/2"
11. Working with the helpers place longer assembled rails on top of the posts; slide attached Corner
Connectors into the shorter rails. Make sure all rails rest on the posts. Secure rails at the corners by
driving #8 screws through predrilled holes into the chases of the Corner Connectors (Fig 2)
12. Drill pilot holes through predrilled holes of the Handrail Support Brackets. Fasten the handrails with
#10 screws. Seal splice and corner connections with matching high quality silicone caulking.
13. Remove the remaining protective wrap, check and tighten all connections. You are done!
