Docket No. 04050017 ADLS Amend' Mayflower Park, Blk 6, lot 2 - Ed Martin
The applicant seeks design approval for signage. The site is located southwest of
Michigan Road and 99th Street. The site is zoned I-I/Industrial and is within the US 421
Overlay
Filed by John Bennett of A/E Technologies for Ed Martin Pontiac GMC.
The applicant is requesting ADLS Amendment approval of wall signage and a ground sign.
Please see informational packet distributed with the meeting agenda. The signs conform to the
size and height requirements of the ordinance.
This site is within the US 421 Overlay requiting ADLS Amendment for new signage. The
Department has the following concerns with the proposed sign'
o
Provide an elevation to the committee members of the building sign. This will allow a
better illustration of the proportions of the sign on the surface of the building wall.
DOCS is not suggesting a desire to support relief from the ordinance but we are not in
support of the proposed sign design. The plan looks like a bunch of different elements
pushed into a small space to meet the ordinance. If the Commission was willing to
consider an alternative DOCS would suggest identifying Ed Martin in the proposed space
and the two automobile makes on either side of the main entry tower above the forward
window areas. This would require a variance but may actually look better that what is
currently proposed (several colors, shapes, logos in the same sign area).
o
Again, the ground sign suffers from a similar issue as the wall sign. It looks as if the sign
designer just took the three logos and pushed them together to fit into the space. DOCS is
also not in favor of a white illuminated box sign. We would prefer illuminated lettering
and an opaque background. The Ed Martin should be the focus with smaller
identification for the two auto makes.
The Department recommends that the Special Studies Committee approve the request after
all comments and concerns have been addressed.
Note: The item only requires approval by the Special Studies Committee.
