DEPARTMENT REPORT
DECEMBER 6, 2011
5. Docket No. 11110008 ADLS Amend: Current Publishing Signage
The applicant seeks approval to install a new suspended ground sign. The site is located at 30 S. Range Line Rd., and
is zoned B -2 and is located within the Old Town Overlay zone. Filed by Steve Greenberg of Current Publishing.
The applicant seeks approval to install a new suspended ground sign on the property. The proposed sign is 12 sq. ft. and 8
feet tall. The size and height comply with the Sign Ordinance standards. The background color will be white, and the text
will be red and black. The sign will be landscaped and illuminated by external lights. (Petitioner, please confirm this.
The sign will be constructed as a 2' x 6' panel. The Department is concerned about the stability, safety, and aesthetics of
the proposed 2' x 6' sign format. It has been general practice that signs in Old Town and along Range Line Rd. are of a
more pedestrian scale, typically 3' x 4', in either a horizontal or a vertical format. As proposed, there will be a six foot
tall gap between the bottom of the sign and the ground. The petition is also without a landscape plan as required by the
ordinance. The Department suggests a sign design that reduces the gap between the sign panel and the ground to a
maximum of 2', and format redesigned to more closely match the typical 3'x4' size, to better fit the small front yard and
more closely match the Old Town character.
Please view the petitioner's informational packet for further detail.
Recommendation: After all comments /concerns are addressed, the Dept of Community Services (DOCS) recommends to
table the item to allow more time to explore other design options and/or give negative consideration of Docket No.

6. Docket No. 11110012 ADLS Amend: Strategic .Marketing Research Signage
The applicant seeks approval to place one new wall sign on the east elevation of the building and to place one new
ground sign on the property. The site is located at 11708 N. College Ave. and is zoned B -2. It is not located within
any Overlay Zone. Filed by Kristen Kohl of Sign Craft Ind. on behalf of the owner.
The Applicant is proposing two new signs for this site. One is a wall sign that will be mounted on the metal overhang
above the entrance doors. It will be non illuminated black letters applied directly to the overhang. It is 9.9 sq. ft. and is
much less than the 90 sq. ft. allowed by the Sign Ordinance.
The second sign is a multi tenant ground sign. It is designed to mimic the building architecture with a brick base with
limestone trim and a stucco top with silver accents. It has room for three tenant panels. The sign area is 15.76. This is well
under the allowable 45 sq. ft. The overall structure height is less than 6' tall. It will be internally illuminated and placed
within an existing landscaping bed. Petitioner, please confirm the background color of the other tenant panels. It
would be the Department's preference that they are white, to match Strategic Marketing and Research.
Please view the petitioner's informational packet for further detail.
Recommendation: After all comments /concerns are addressed, the Dept of Community Services (DOCS) recommends
positive consideration of Docket No. 11110012 ADLS Amend.
