THE CHALLENGER@ SERIES
The Challenger offers total optical flexibility in a sleek, aerodynamically designed fixture.
The one-piece, die-cast aluminum luminaire complements the architectural integrity of
virtually any site. Standard design features include IP65 rating which completely seals the
Challenger housing from penetration of external contaminants.
Designed around a standard 400 Watt and a 1000 Watt reduced envelope lamp size, the
Challenger gives you a choice of either horizontal or vertical lamp orientation, plus a variety
of lamp types and reflectors to best meet your application. The compact, low profile shape
creates lower EPAs, which may allow use of lighter gauge poles. The Challenger is easy to
install and to maintain.
SPECIFICATIONS
HOUSING
One-piece, die-cast aluminum in a
multi-radiused, rectangular shape
with mounting arm cast in as an
integral part of the housing. All
hardware is stainless steel or
electro-zinc plated steel.
DOOR FRAME
The Challenger's one-piece, die-cast
aluminum door frame secures to the
housing with two internal hinges.
Two stainless steel captive door
fasteners allow easy access. Door
frame may then be removed from
housing without tools. A one-piece
extruded silicone gasket seals the
door frame against the housing.
LENS/GASKET
The Challenger is available with a
contoured clear tempered glass
lens for vertical lamp optics. A
tempered flat clear glass lens or
contoured clear tempered glass
lens is offered for horizontal lamp
optics. A one-piece extruded silicone
gasket seals the lens to the die-cast
aluminum door frame.
SOCKETS
Porcelain mogul-base sockets.
All sockets are factory prewired
with a disconnect plug for
the ballast. All sockets are
pulse-rated.
LIGHT SOURCES
Pulse-Start Metal Halide, Super
Metal Halide, Metal Halide, Metal
Halide Reduced Envelope, or High
Pressure Sodium. Clear lamp is
supplied as standard.
BALLAST
High-power factor ballast with
removable/hinged ballast tray. Metal
Halide, Super Metal Halide, and High
Pressure Sodium fixtures feature a
CW A type ballast. All ballasts are
designed for -200 F operation.
Optional Quick Connect package
includes 1500 C supply wiring plus
modular plugs for easy ballast wiring.
ARM/BRACKETS
The Challenger's integral cast
mounting arm is flat for square
pole applications. The fixture may
also be mounted to round pOles
using the round pole adaptor
accessory (RPPC), which must
be ordered seperately. An extruded
611 arm extension is required for
0900, Q900, T900 and TN 1200
fixture configurations. A locking nut
secures two through bolts and a
reinforcing plate to the pole,
stabilizing it for easy fixture mounting.
IP65
REFLECTORS/DISTRIBUTION
PATTERNS.
The Challenger is available with a
wide variety of reflectors. Vertical
Burn systems include: Type II (2),
Type III (3), Type V (5), Automotive
Forward Throw (FA), and Perimeter
Forward Throw (FP). Horizontal
Burn systems include: Type III (3),
Type V (5) and Forward Throw (FT).
All reflectors are field-rotatable,
enabling generous flexibility in
distribution patterns, without fixture
movement. Photometric data is
tested in accordance with IESNA
guidelines.
FINISHES
Each fixture is finished with LSI's
OuraGrip@ polyester powder coat
finishing process. The OuraGrip
finish withstands extreme weather
changes without cracking or
peeling, and is guaranteed for five
full years. Standard colors include
bronze, black, platinum plus, buff,
white and green.
POLES
Refer to Poles/Brackets section of
catalog for pole information.

TEEl S UARE POLES - FOR USE WITH CHALLENGER & PATRIOT lUMINAIRES
POLE SHAFT - Pole shaft is electro-welded ASTM-A500 Grade C steel tubing with a minimum
yield strength of 50,000 psi. On Tenon Mount steel poles, tenon is 2-3/8" 0.0. high-
strength pipe. Tenon is 4-3/4" in length. Straight poles are 4", 5", and 6" square.
HAND-HOLE - Standard hand-hole location is 12" above pole base. Hand-hole size is 2" x 4".
Poles 22' and above have a 3" x 6" reinforced hand-hole.
BASE - Pole base is ASTM-A36 hot-rolled steel plate with a minimum yield strength of 36,000
psi. Two-piece square base cover is optional.
ANCHOR BOLTS - Poles are furnished with anchor bolts featuring zinc-plated double nuts
and washers. Galvanized anchor bolts are optional. Anchor bolts conform to ASTM-A36
with a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi.
GROUND LUG - Ground lug is standard.
DUPLEX RECEPTACLE - Weatherproof duplex receptacle is optional.
GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER - Ground fault circuit interrupter is optional.
FINISHES - Each pole is finished with LSl's OuraGrip@ baked-on polyester-powder finishing
process to give the pole an exceptionally attractive appearance. The process electrostatically
applies and thermally fuses a polyester powder to the pole. This unique protection process
provides an extremely smooth and uniform finish which withstands extreme weather
changes without cracking or peeling. OuraGrip finish features a two-year limited warranty.
Standard finish colors available for poles are bronze, black, platinum plus, buff, white,
green, and graphite. Optional OuraGrip@ Plus features added protection with a 3.0 to 5.0
mil thickness of polyester-powder finish plus an inner coating. This specially developed
inner coating is a thermal plastic hydrocarbon resin applied to the inside of the pole to
seal and protect against atmospheric and corrosive matter. OuraGrip Plus finish features
a five-year limited warranty.
DETERMINING THE LUMINAIRE/POLE COMBINATION FOR YOUR APPLICATION:
· Select luminaire from Luminaire Ordering Information.
· Select bracket configuration.
· Refer to Luminaire EPA Chart to determine EPA value.
· Select Height of pole.

All LSI Lighting Systems' poles are guaranteed to meet the EPA requirements listed. LSI Lighting Systems is not responsible if a pole order has a lower EPA rating
than the indicated wind-loading zone where the pole will be located.
CAUTION: This guarantee does not apply if the pole/bracket/fixture combination is used to support any other items such as flags, pennants, or signs, which would
add stress to the pole. LSI Lighting Systems cannot accept responsibility for harm or damage caused in these situations.
I
NOTE: Pole calculations include a 1.3 gust factor over steady wind velocity. Example: poles designed to withstand 80 MPH steady wind will withstand gusts to 104
MPH. EPAs are for locations 100 miles away from hurricane ocean lines. Consult LSI for other areas. Note: Hurricane ocean lines are the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico
coastal areas. For Florida applications - consult factory.

OPTICAL CONSTRUCTION:
A REFLECTION OF SMARTER
THINKING
Our goals were simple. More light froril fewer
lights, Better light from all lights, The right
kind of light in the rIght place. Day-tn.day,
year-to-year functionality and durability,
Reaching those goals required sophisticated
computer modeling and optimization of
reflector designs. It Incant utilizing heat and
impact resistant tempered glass lenses and
detailed photometric analysis. Because in the
end, it', all about the light,
