Blaine,
As this is a small project, the approval process is simple. With that, there are some issues that will need to be fixed
before I can stamp this new plan approved.
URBAN FORESTRY REVIEW COMMENTS
1) I have attached my standard detail for planting. Details will need to be shown on the plan, as like on the first
plan.
2) I have attached our tree preservation detail. Please add this detail to the plans, as like on the first plan.
3) Please show a plant list/schedule on the plan, as like on the first plan.
4) Canada Red Cherry's tend to have branches that continually extend to the ground even after trimming. The
Zelkova's on the first plan are arching upright shade trees and a better fit for a parking lot/sidewalk area. I
recommend keeping this tree species at this location.
5) Under the heading Removals, it states "Remove all Existing Material not shown on proposed plan". I know
this was not on the last plan and it's not crucial, but if wording like this is to be put on the plan, then an
existing site plan or list should be attached. Otherwise, it will not be know what'exactly was removed. I don't
need anything changed specifically for this comment, it's just food for thought for future projects.
Please illustrate how these comments will be addressed by letter or revised plan. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact me.Thanks.
Personally, I did not see much wrong with the first plan. I always wonder why a company would want to pay for a whole
new plan and go through the review process again, when the new plan is not approvable on first glance.

Subject: Five Parkwood Entry - Landscaping Design Update
Daren,
1
Thanks for your efforts on our most recent projects at Parkwood. We have been put in a position where we need to
change landscape installation companies for the Five Parkwood Entry project. The new company did not like the
landscape plan that was previously submitted, and believe they have a better idea. I am not a landscape designer, and
cannot tell if the new plan is 'on par' with the plan we originally submitted. I will tell you that everything north of the 5'
sidewalk/stairs will remain. We were able to keep it, including one mature shade tree.
The first file attached is what we submitted originally. The second attachment is the Brickman plan we would like to
actually install. Can you please take a few moments and confirm if the second attachment is acceptable to you? Last
thing I want to do is let something get put into the ground that does not meet your approval.
Please advise at your next opportunity. If you would like to meet on-site, I will make sure someone is available at your
convenience. Thank you for your time,
Blaine Paul

Blaine,
The following email represents comments for this project specifically addressing the area of landscaping. I
have reviewed the drawings and offer the following comments:
URBAN FORESTRY REVIEW COMMENTS
1) Maples are not recommended as they are overplanted within the City and have numerous issues with them.
I recommend a type of tree that will less likely impede the sidewalk and that will arch over it better. A good
substitution is the Japanese Zellkova which has fall color and does not have the seed issue that maples have,
while having an arching affect. Since the site calls for.only 2 maples, I will leave it up to you if the maples are
kept or replaced. f see that you might be trying to match an existing red maple.
2) As there are trees being preserved on this site, I have attached our tree preservation detail to be used on
Carmel projects. Please add this detail to the plans.
3) I have attached our standard tree planting details,as it shows complete removaJ of the basket as we desire.
The site is small and your detail does show removing the top 1/3 of the packaging so it will suffice, but I
highly recommend using our details. They are free to use on all of your projects.
Please illustrate how these comments will be addressed by letter or revised plan. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact me. Thanks.

Blaine,
The Engineering Department has had a chance to look at what is proposed and has the following comments:
• The improvements appear to be less than 1% acre. Is this correct?
• City standard curbs will be required. Engineering standard detail drawings can be found on the Engineering
Department website.
• Please include the City's curbing policy with the plans.
• An approved right-of-way permit is required for construction equipment access from the City's right-of-way.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,

Blaine—
I do not think a meeting is necessary;this email is good enough. Please file the adls amend app. and submit plans to the
forestry dept and the engineering dept, too.
Also, I have forwarded this email to the city forester to get his input. We definitely want plant mitigation for the tree&
shrubs that will be impacted/lost...
