Angie - I hope the below will suffice. Please let me know if you need anything further.
Thank you
(----5-lis PCS (power control system) is enclosed in the steel container, so this sound will be
reduced well below 60 decibels according to Toshiba who designed the system. Also, the
sound is not continuous - it will only make the sound when the battery is charging or
discharging.

Engledow recommends a screen planting of Techny Arbovitae 6' tall planted 3' on center (9
plants) on the north, east and south sides in a hardwood bark mulch bed. This is consistent
with the transformer treatment at other locations on site. The west side is the location of
the doors. The doors need to be free of obstruction for the technicians to work and access
etc.
The transformer will be approximately the same size as the other two transformers that feed
Whole Foods, so approximately 6' tall by 6' wide and 3' deep.

Thank you Barbara. If applicable for this project, the Engineering Department will need to
approve the plan before construction is allowed to commence on site.
If there is major site work for a project, the Engineering Department will provide comments
for the Plan Commission hearing as well. In general, our department likes to understand the
scope so we can make recommendations to the petitioner and to the Plan Commission hopefully
in support of the proposed development or possibly to outline any deficiencies which may
alter the site plan. This proposed project appears to be fairly minor. So it will not be
necessary for the Engineering Department to review it before next week's Plan Commission
meeting. However, before the project progresses to construction, we will need to review and
approve the construction plans.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
1

Amanda - "Just received". . .below are the answers I've received from Duke Energy in relation
to your questions.
They will roll this all up on Monday; however, I thought I'd get what I had to you ASAP since
we are a little short on time. Something more formal will be forthcoming on Monday. If you
have any further questions, please let me know.
Thanks

Ecosystem project (#12050007 ADLS Amend)
Comments from Duke Energy:
1. What is the extent of demolition of the existing area? Will the
existing pavement be left intact?
There will be an approximately 6'x6' hole made in the pavement near the existing
transformer behind whole foods for the primary bore.
2. Will there be new pavement or curbing? What is the extent of
improvements for this project?
We will be repairing the pavement and curbing at the site of the primary bore,
near the existing transformer.
1
3. Will the existing drainage be affected?
Drainage should be unaffected.
4. Locations of existing utilities and/or easements in relationship to
this project. Are these easements/utilities being accommodated?
There are customer owned electric, water and drainage lines in the area, we will
be having locates done including some "pot hole's" done to determine exact location of other
utilities.
5. What is the total disturbed area for the construction of this
project?
The primary bore location, the pad and secondary bore location in the grassy
area west of Whole Foods loading dock, and the actual parking spaces where the charging
equipment will go will be the only disturbed areas for this project.
Comments from Electric Plus, Inc - Duke's contractor:
The area up by the new Duke Energy service will need to be dug back about ten feet in
order to get the boring rods in at a sufficient angle, this area is in the grass behind Whole
Foods. The receiving end in the parking lot (paved area) will just have 12" to 18" areas
bored out of the pavement in order to catch the boring rods and feed the poly-tubing. The
Level 2 and Level 2 chargers will have concrete poured back into the holes, since this is
where the pads will go for the chargers. So there will be no visible pavement damage. The
boring for the Battery Containment Unit will leave the pavement disturbed where we have to
receive the conduits. We can fill this however you like. Our intention was to use concrete
dyed black to match the existing pavement. It will be a very small area. If we have a 24"
hole and we put three 2" conduits and one 1" conduit back in the hole, we have a small area
to patch. Most of the area to be patched, will be under the containment unit, and therefore
not visible.
As far as any existing utilities or drainage, I don't foresee those being disturbed
whatsoever. The Public Utilities will be marked for us, and I believe we were offered a site
plan of the existing Private Conduits that have been installed. Such as the sprinkler lines.

Angie - I just had a really long meeting (2 hr standing in the parking lot)with Duke and all
the contractors involved with this project and Duke is saying that the battery will not be
white but will remain the green color specified in the specs.
I can send
over a picture of it if need be. It will be included in the 9 packets for Friday's
deadline. .
which brings me to another question. Its been so long since I've been to Planning Commission
- do those packets need to be any different than what I submitted
last week? When will I know if you/Mike etc have questions or changes
that would need to take place prior to the Friday submittal?
Thanks

Perhaps the route can be an administrative approval via ADLS Amendment application; applications are attached. Then,
no meeting would be required. We just need a little more info about all the changes proposed. Daren Mindham will
need to look at the impact on landscaping too, if any, and we would need all details on landscaping, signage,
camouflaging of conduits, colors, materials, etc.
