Mr. Kemp
Please see comments in red below. If you comply with all of the requirements below, you will not be required
to file this project with the State. Please keep in mind that if one item or scope is required to be filed, the
entire project must be filed.
Even if your project is not required to be filed with us, you may still need to obtain local permits.

Subject: FW: CDR Exemption question
Good Afternoon,
file:///C|/Users/Jared/Desktop/Carmel Plan Review/CDR Exemption Email.htm[1/9/2013 8:53:32 AM]
We are attempting to file for a building permit in the city of Carmel, In. It is located in Hamilton County. The address of the
project is 9797 N. Michigan Rd. Carmel, In 46032. It is currently a 66 unit Country inn and suites. We are converting the hotel
to a Holiday Inn Express. The building department has requested that we provide either a CDR or authorization of exemption
from state. We are a licensed General Contractor.
The scope of work will include the following:
1.) Removing and reinstalling asphalt shingle roofing. New roofing must be at least the same class as the existing.
2.) Applying stone and EIFS over existing brick substrate ok
3.) Removing existing hotel signage and replacing with new signage for new brand ok
4.) Removing and replacing lobby and common area floor covering and wall covering Wall and ceiling finishes shall meet
the flame spread rating for new construction.
5.) Removing and replacing lobby and common area casework see note above
6.) Install additional fire alarm notification devices per franchise. Cannot exceed the capacity of the electrical distribution
system in the building.
7.) Install motion sensors in place of existing single pole switches in common areas ok
8.) Remove and replacing PTACS in guest units must be of similar type
9.) Remove and replace carpet and tile in guestrooms See note above on finishes
10.) Remove and replace tubs/tub surrounds and vanities in units Cannot diminish any accessibility units
11.) Painting throughout hotel in common and guestroom areas. ok
I researched the decision logistic chart and it appears that we will be allowed an exemption. Please confirm.
