In general, we believe the guide should be as professional as possible while ma' ; ing user- g'
friendly format and verbiage. Subjective commentary should"be kept to a minim : ,, : v
have clear directions and accompanying photo examples.
Specific comments on individual signs are listed below.
Page 1 - Logos
A logo is a graphic image associated with a company name. We do not consider the entire
company name a logo, only the graphic image. Delete remaining paragraph.
Page 3 - Channel Letter
Paragraph three: The area of a Channel letter is measured by drawing a rectangle around all of
the letters of the business name,.thereby determining the height and width of the sign. Please
refer to the drawing on the left for an example.
Page 4— Raceway
Last sentence paragraph two: A raceway should be painted to match the color of the building on
which it's installed, so that it blends into the fascia.
Paragraph three—see wording under paragraph three of Channel Letter.
Page 5—Cabinet Sign
First paragraph—Delete last sentence.
Paragraph two— A cabinet sign can look more like a Channel Letter sign if an opaque
background is used.
(We'd also suggest providing an example of this.)
Paragraph three—The area for a Cabinet Wall Sign is determined by total area (see drawing at
left).
Page 6—Directory Wall Sign
First paragraph—A Directory Wall Sign is typically placed on the wall by the main entrance to a
multi-tenant building.
Paragraph two — Delete last sentence.
Paragraph three—The area for Directory Wall Sign is determined by the total area (see drawing
at left).
Page 7—Nameplate
First paragraph—A Nameplate sign is placed on the wall by the main entrances to a Home
occupation or Boarding House. It identifies the name and occupation or profession of the
occupant.
Paragraph three—The area of a Nameplate Wall Sign is determined by the total area (see
drawing at left).
Page 8—Awning Sign
First paragraph—An Awning Sign is a secondary wall or identification sign.
Paragraph two —Awning signs are useful when a tenant want to display some of their products.
Page 9 —Projecting Sign
First paragraph—We still dislike the last sentence because creativity is in the eye of the
beholder; however, the group disagreed with that.
Paragraph two —The area of a Projecting Sign is determined by the height and width of the entire
sign.
Page 10— Blade Sign
First paragraph—A Blade sign is a vertically-oriented sign best used on buildings close to the
street. It aids in direct visibility for vehicular traffic.
Paragraph two—This type of sign is typically used on buildings two stories or taller top identify
the main building tenant or the building name.
Paragraph three—The area of a Blade Sign is determined by the total area (see drawing at left).
Page 11 — Secondary Projecting Sign
Paragraph two--This sign would typically be placed underneath an awning or overhang, or can
hang from the ceiling.

Paragraph three—The area of the Ground Sign is determined by the total area (see drawing at
left).
Page 13 — Directory Ground Sign
First Paragraph—Add "Can be illuminated or not."

Note: Include night photo.
Page 14 —Suspended Sign
First paragraph—Examples of suspended signs can be found in the Old Town area in Carmel,
along Range Line Road and in various residential subdivisions. These signs consist of a post and
decorative arm. The Identification sign is suspended from the arm.

left).
Page 15 —Roof Sign
First paragraph—Roof signs are allowed when there is no space for a Wall Sign.
Paragraph two—The area for a Roof Sign is determined by the total area (see drawing at left).
Page 16—Non-Illuminated Window Sign
First paragraph — Last sentence—These signs are allowed for businesses to advertise sales,
• specials, the business' name,and the hours of operation to name a few.
Paragraph two—The area for a Non-illuminated Window Sign is determined by the total area

Page 17—Illuminated Window Sign
First paragraph--Second sentence-One only illuminated sign is allowed per business.
Paragraph two—third sentence—Blinking or moving signs are not permitted.

Addition—Verbiage to clarify who cares for the trees (pruning, etc.)
