BACKFILL MATERIAL TO BE CLEAN SAND AND GRAVEL CONTAINING LE55 THAN FIVE PERCENT (5 %) FINES BY WEIGHT. GRANULAR BACKFILL SHALL BE PLACED WITH MINIMAL AMOUNT OF TAMPING AND COMPACTING. OVER TAMPING THE GRANULAR BACKFILL TO SHALLOW LAYERS MAY INCREASE THE COEFFICIENT OF EARTH PRESSURE AT REST (KO) TO 0.8 AND THEREFORE INCREASE THE LATERAL EARTH PRESSURE. 14. PROVIDE A COHESIVE CLAY CAP EXTENDING FROM GRADE TO 2 FEET BELOW GRADE ABOVE GRANULAR BACKFILL FOR BASEMENT WALLS. 15.
