PART 7. EXAMINATION
A. Inspection:
1. Prior to the commencement of surface preparation or other coating
activities, thoroughly inspect the surfaces to determine if the Work
is ready to be prepared and pointed.
2. Report in writing to ARCHITECT, all conditions that may potentially
affect proper application.
3. Do not commence surface preparation or other coating activities
until such defects have been corrected.
B. Correction of defects:
1. Correct defects and deficiencies in surfaces which may adversely
affect work of the Section.
PART B. CLEANING:
A. Remove spilled, splashed or spattered paint from all surfaces.
B. Do not mar surface finish of item being cleaned.
C. Prior to acceptance of the Work of this Section, thoroughly clean all
painted surfaces and related areas in accordance with Section 01562 -
Cleaning.
PART 9. PROTECTION:
A. General:
1. Adequately protect other surfaces from paint and damage.
2. Repair damage as a result of inadequate or unsuitable protection.
B. Protective materials:
1. Furnish sufficient drop cloths, shields, and protective equipment to
prevent spray or droppings from fouling surfaces not being painted
and in particular, surfaces within storage and preparation area.
C. Electrical plates and hardware:
1. Remove electrical plates, surface hardware, fittings and fastenings
prior to painting operations.
2. These items are to be carefully stored, cleaned and replaced upon
completion of work in each area.
3. Do not use solvent to clean hardware that may remove permanent
lacquer finish.
SECTION: 15000
MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A. PLUMBING
SCOPE
Furnish all labor, material, equipment and services necessary to
complete installation of all waste systems, drainage systems, vent
systems, hot and cold water systems and all plumbing fixtures shown
on the drawings and herein specified.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. DELTA OR PEERLESS FAUCETS TO BE INSTALLED OR ACCEPTED EQUAL.
2. GERBER OR KOHLER HANDICAP TANK TYPE WATER CLOSETS AND
LAVATORIES TO BE INSTALLED OR APPROVED EQUAL.
3. A.G. SMITH WALL HUNG WATER HEATERS TO BE INSTALLED IN
RESTROOM ON WALL BRACKETS.
4. 1 1/2" FLOOR DRAINS (WITH COVER) TO BE INSTALLED IN ALL RESTROOMS.
5. ALL WATER LINES INSTALLED TO BE COPPER.
6. ALL WATER LINES ABOVE CEILING TO BE INSULATED.
7. ALL WATER LINES IN CEILINGS WITH RETURN AIR SYSTEMS SHALL BE
WRAPPED IN FIRE RATED INSULATION.
9. ALL WATER LINES TO HAVE SHUT -OFF VALVES IN METER ROOM AND
WHERE ENTERING UNITS.
10. ALL PLUMBING VENTS AND DRAINS TO BE PVC. (PIPES IN CEILINGS
WITH RETURN AIR SYSTEMS TO BE WRAPPED IN FIRE RATED INSULATION)
11. ROOF FLASHINGS (ON DURALAST ROOFING SYSTEM) TO BE BY ROOFING
CONTRACTOR.
NOTE: ALL RESTROOMS TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS INSTALLED:
1.
HANDICAP BARS.
2.
20" X 24" MIRROR.
3.
TOILET PAPER DISPENSER.
4.
PAPER TOWEL HOLDER.
CODES AND REGULATIONS
Comply with the BOCA Plumbing Code, the State Plumbing
Rules, the State Energy Conservation Code or the local codes
having jurisdiction in the particular area.
MATERIALS
General: All material specified below shall conform to the
standards listed in Table A- Plumbing Material Standards of the
BOCA Plumbing Code.
WATER HEATERS
General: All water heaters shall be listed and labeled by a
nationally recognized testing and inspection agency, and installed
in accordance with the listing. All domestic hot water systems
shall be equipped with means for limiting the temperature of the
hot water for personal use at the fixtures to 140 degrees
fahrenheit. All water heaters shall be provided with a reseating
type temperature and pressure relief valve constructed, listed and
installed in accordance with ANSI Z21.22, in addition to the energy
cut off device installed by the heater manufacturer.
Water heaters shall be provided with tank connections of stainless
steel, copperlined steel, brass or copper plated steel threaded
pipe nipples equipped with electrically inert waterway permanently
fixed to each nipple. Dip tube may be metallic, electrically
insulated from the tank or non - metallic conforming to ANSI A21.10.
Copper dip tubes may be used with brass nipples without dielectric
fittings in copper tanks.
In addition to water temperature control required, all water
heaters shall be equipped with pressure and temperature relieve
protection. The drain line from the temperature and pressure
relief valve shall be galvanized pipe or hard drawn copper. This
line will drain into an approved receptor in a manner constituting
as indirect waste. Dielectric unions will be used to connect water
lines to the water heater.
TRENCHES
Plumbing trenches under slabs shall be backfrlled with granular
material and compacted to 98X
SANITARY SYSTEM
Laying Pipe: Establish all flow conditions prior to commencing
work in order to avoid conflicts. Contractor will be allowed
reasonable variations from the established grades and elevation of
those shown on the plans in order to meet the final and exact
condition.
Vents; Fixtures shall be vented as indicated on drawings. Vents
and soil stacks shall be extended through the roof. They shall be
terminated 16" above the roof and flashed with an approved flashing
by Duro -last Roofing Contractor.
Hangers and Supports: Conform to Article 13 of the BOCA National
Plumbing Code.
Covering of Work: No work shall be covered until the required
tests have been made and approval for cover -up has been granted by
the Inspector.
Tests: In accordance with Article 17 of the BOCA National Plumbing
Code.
Sterilization of Water Piping: The Contractor shall flush the
entire system of all impurities. Additional disinfecting may be
required by the local authority.
Excuchions: Chrome plated, required where pipes pass through wall
or floor.
Exposed Piping and Fittings: Exposed Hotwater piping and fittings shall
be insulated per ADA requirements.
Testing: Comply with Article 17 of the BOCA National Plumbing
Code.
SECTION: 15500
MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS:
B. HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
SCOPE
Furnish all labor, material, equipment and services necessary to
complete installation of all heating and air conditioning work and
all fan duct work shown on the drawings and herein specified.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. ALL BRANCH LINES TO BE MYLAR COATED FLEXIBLE INSULATED DUCT
MAIN TRUNK LINES TO BE INSULATED METAL DUCT.
2. ALL SUPPLY DIFFUSERS TO BE 24 "x 24
3. HEATING CONTRACTOR TO SUPPLY RESTROOM FANS AND VENTS
LOCATED PER PLANS.
4. ALL RTU SIZES AND SPECIFICATIONS LISTED ON THE MECHANICAL
PLAN SHEETS.
5. HEATING CONTRACTOR TO FURNISH AND INSTALL ALL REQUIRED
GAS LINES.
CODE COMPLIANCES
Comply with the BOCA Mechanical Code, the State Mechanical
Rules, and the State Energy Conservation Code, or other local code
having jurisdiction in the particular area.
HEATING EQUIPMENT
General: All equipment shall conform to the requirements of the
latest edition of the Energy Conservation Code. The minimum
efficiency rating of all electric heating and cooling equipment
shall be a minimum of 9.0 SEER. The contractor shall
verify that the equipment prior to submitting his bid.
AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT
General: All equipment shall conform to the requirements of the
latest edition of the Energy Conservation Code. The minimum

verify that the equipment prior to submitting his bid.

Heating: It is the intent of the drawings and specifications to
provide for the installation of a heating system which is safe,
quiet and economical in operation and complete in all respects and
which will provide a uniform temperature of 72 degrees fahrenheit
in all living spaces and temperature in other spaces as may be
noted on the drawings, when the outside temperature is at +2
degrees fahrenheit. All materials and equipment necessary to
accomplish this intent shall be furnished and installed by the
Contractor.
Air Conditioning: It is the intent of the drawings and
specifications to provide for the installation of a cooling system
which is safe, quiet and economical in operation and complete in
all respects and which will provide a temperature of 78 degrees
fahrenheit and 50% relative humidity at a dry bulb temperature of
90 degrees fahrenheit and wet bulb temperature of 74 degrees
fahrenheit. Accomplishment of these intents shall be furnished and
installed by the Contractor.
TESTS
Each system shall be tested to insure that the intent stated above
has been realized. Bonnet temperature and equipment noise level
shall be checked to insure proper equipment operation. Air flow at
each register shall be checked to insure proper and unrestricted
air flow through the duct system.
BACKDRAFT DAMPERS
Air discharge openings through roofs or exterior walls shall be
protected against the entrance of rain, snow, birds, large insects
and foreign objects. Automatic louvers or backdraft dampers shall
be provided on other than attic ventilators to prevent a reverse
flow of air when the fan is not In operation.
SECTION: 15900
MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS:
C. FIRE PROTECTION
SCOPE
All Fire Suppresions Systems to be designed and submitted by
Fire Protection Contractor.
Flow Indicater to be installed on Sprinkler Systems Riser for
connection to alarm. (Alarm to be Supplied and Installed by Owner)
SECTION: 16000
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS:
SCOPE
Furnish all labor, material, equipment and services necessary to
install and connect all electrical equipment shown on the drawings
and specified in these specifications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. ALL WIRING SHALL TO BE #12 MINIMUM COPPER.
2. ALL ELECTRIC SERVICE INFORMATION TO BE COORDINATED WITH LOCAL
UTILITY REQUIREMENTS.
3. ALL ELECTRIC PANELS TO BE COPPER BUSS TYPE.
4. ALL CONDUITS TO BE STRAPPED OR CLAMPED ACCORDING TO NEC AND
ALL BENDS TO BE MADE WITH APPROVED BENDERS.
5. ALL JUNCTION BOXES ARE TO HAVE COVERS INSTALLED AND CIRCUITS
CONTAINED INSIDE TO BE MARKED ON COVER.
6. ALL RECEPTACLES TO BE 16" TO CENTER A.F.F. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
7. NO MORE THAN FIVE (5) RECEPTACLES SHALL BE ALLOWED ON ANY
ONE (1) CIRCUIT.
8. ALL PANELS SHALL HAVE TYPED IDENTIFICATION LABLES FOR ALL CIRCUITS.
9. A SEPERATE GROUND WIRE SHALL BE PULLED IN ALL CONDUIT RUNS
AND SHALL BE CONTINUOUS THROUGH SYSTEM. (EMT IS NOT AN
ACCEPTABLE GROUND)
10. THERE WILL BE A WATER PIPE GROUND ALONG WITH BUILDING GROUND
FOR THE SERVICE.
11. ALL WEATHERPROOF COVERS SHALL BE FLUSH, COVERED AND GASKETED
TO KEEP OUT ANY MOISTURE.
12. ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS SHALL BE DONE BY APPROVED METHODS.
13. ALL CONDUITS AND WIRING FOR ELECTRICAL SERVICE TO BE FURNISHED
AND INSTALLED PER LOCAL POWER COMPANYS REQUIREMENTS.
14. TELEPHONE SERVICE CONDUIT TO BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR.
GENERAL
The installation shall comply with all laws of local regulating
authorities, the regulations of the current edition of the
Natioinal Electric Code and with wiring rules of the local
electrical utility company. After completion of work, the
Contractor shall furnish the Owner, a certificate of final
inspection and approval from the local inspection department or
bureau having jurisdiction.
MATERIAL
Prohibited Material: The use of aluminum wire is prohibited.
all material shall be new, bearing Underwriter's stamp
of approval.
WORKMANSHIP
All work shall be executed in a workmanlike manner and shall
present a neat appearance when completed.
Markers: Each meter and its associated switch shall be identified
by number. Each meter and switch shall have a panel.
Sleeves: Passage of conduit through any firewall shall be
provided with pipe sleeves. seal space between and conduit
with fireproof caulking.
PROGRESS OF WORK
The Contractor shall order the progress of this work so as to
conform to the progress of the work of other trades and shall
complete the entire installation as soon as the condition of the
building will permit.
