cpuantity, slze, genus, species and variety shown and scheduled for
Indscape work and complying with recomnendations and
requirements of 1996 edition "American Standard for Nursery Stock".
P'rovide heafthy, vigorous stock, grown in recognized nursery in
accordance with good horticultural practice and free of disease,
imsects, eggs, larvae and defecfs such as knots, suR-scald, injuries,
albrasions or disf'iguremenL Al) plants to bear same re(ationship to
gtrade when planted as in nursery.
Btackfilling of Planting Pits and Planting Beds: Use backfi(I as
secified herein as a mixture containing 1 part topsoit and 2 parts
sail excavated from pits and beds. Planting pits and beds shall
be backfilled carefully to fitl voids and to avoid breaking or bruising
roots. Tamp backfill firm to prevent settlement. When bed is nearly
filled, water thoroughly and allow the water to soak away. If settling
of the backfill occurs after watering, add more backfill to bring level,
as required by Drawing.
Introduce the following nutrients per cubic yard of soil mixture:
a. 5 Ibs. Bonemeal
b. 8 Ibs. 7-40-6 slow release commercial fertilizer
Mlulch: Shredded "midi" bark 1"-3" in size.

Seiection and lnspection: The Landscape Architect will select
vees at place of growth and inspect trees and shrubs at site before
planting, for compliance with requirements for genus, species,
variety, size and quality. Landscape Architect retains right to further
inspect Vees and shrubs for size and conditions of balls and root
systems, insects, injuries and latent defects, and to reject
unsatisfactory or defective material at any time during progress of
work. Remove rejected trees or shrubs immedlately from project
si,e.
EXECUTION
1. Layout individual tree and shrub locations and areas for multiple
plantings. Stake locations and outline areas and secure Landscape
ArchitecYs acceptance before start of planting work. Make minor
adjustments as may be requested.
2. Balled and burlapped stock to be set with "root flares" exposed
6" to 8" above grade level on layer of compacted planting soil
mixture, plumb and in center of pit or trench with top of ball above
adjacent finished landscape grades. When set, place additional
backfill around base and sides of ball, and work each layer to
settle backfill and eliminate voids and air pockets. When
excavation is approximately two-thirds full, water thoroughly
before placing remainder of backfill. Repeat watering until no
more is absorbed. Water again after placing final layer of backfill.
MAINTENANCE
1. Begin maintenance immediately after planting. Landscape
Contractor shall maintain trees, shrubs and all plants until final
acceptance, but in no case less than 30 days after substantial
completion of planting.
2. Maintain trees, shrubs and other plants by pruning, cultivating

and shrubs to proper grades or vertical position as required.
Restore or replace damaged wrappings. Spray as required to keep
trees and shrubs free of insects and disease.
INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE

Landscape Architect will, upon request, make an inspection to
determine acceptability.

maintenance until reinspected by Landscape Architect and found to
be acceptable. Remove rejected plants and materials promptly
from project site.
