This Section includes manufactured stone veneer, manufactured stone trim, and application materials in the following applications: 1. Adhered to wood framing and sheathing. 1.2 REFERENCES A. American Concrete Institute (ACI). B. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM): 1. ASTM C 39, Standard Test Method for Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens. 2. ASTM C 67, Standard Test Methods for Sampling and Testing Brick and Structural Clay Tile. 3. ASTM C 192, Standard Practice for Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Laboratory. 4. ASTM C 270, Standard Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry. 5. ASTM C 482, Standard Test Method for Bond Strength of Ceramic Tile to Portland Cement. 6. ASTM D 226, Standard Specification for Asphalt-Saturated Organic Felt Used in Roofing and Waterproofing. C. International Code Council (ICC): 1. ES Report. 2. UBC Standard No. 14-1, Kraft Waterproof Building Paper. D. Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) of The Masonry Society. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Manufactured masonry and application materials including mortar color charts, and weather resistant barrier. B. Samples: Panel containing full-size samples of specified manufactured masonry showing full range of colors and textures complete with specified mortar. 1. Actual size of masonry sample approximately 12 by 12 inches (300 by 300 mm). C. Quality Assurance/Control Submittals: 1. Manufacturer’s Installation Instructions. F. Closeout Submittals: Reference Section 01 78 00Closeout Submittals; submit following items: 1. Maintenance Instructions. 2. Special Warranties. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Installer experienced in performing work of this section who has specialized in installation of work similar to that required for this project.. B. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under sample Submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and qualities of materials and execution. 1. Build mockups for each type of stone veneer assembly in sizes approximately 48 inches long by 48 inches high by full thickness, including face and backup. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING A. General: Comply with Division 1 B. Ordering: Comply with manufacturer’s ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid construction delays. C. Delivery: Deliver materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact. D. Storage and Protection: Store materials protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions and at temperature and humidity conditions recommended by manufacturer. Store mortar and other moisture-sensitive materials in protected enclosures; handle by methods which avoid exposure to moisture. 1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Environmental Requirements/Conditions: Ambient air temperature shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements. 1. Maintain materials and surrounding air temperature to minimum 40 degrees F prior to, during and for 48 hours after completion of work. 2. Protect materials from rain, moisture and freezing temperatures prior to during and for 48 hours after completion of work. 3. Allow no construction activity on opposite side of wall during installation and for 48 hours after completion of work. BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 STONE VENEER ASSEMBLIES 04860-3 1.7 WARRANTY A. Submit, for Owner’s acceptance, manufacturer’s standard warranty document executed by authorized company official. Manufacturer’s warranty is in addition to, and not a limitation of, other rights Owner may have under Contract Documents. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ARCHITECTURAL CAST STONE A. Product/System: Provide one of the following, or approved equal. 1. Cobblefield, Chardonnay (CSV-387860). C. Cultured Brick® Thin Brick Veneer (BRV-1): as referenced on the Material Schedule on sheet A8.1: 1. High Desert Used Brick (CB-418953). D. Architectural Trim: 1. Trimstones: a. Color: Taupe. b. Size: 6 by 8 by 1-7/8 inches (150 by 200 by 48 mm). 2. Keystones: a. Color: Taupe b. Size: 5 ½” (bottom), 8” (top), 10” (high), 1 7/8” (thick) 3. Watertable/Sill—Stone Textured: a. Color: Taupe. b. Size: 2 (front), 2-1/2 (back), by 3 by 18 inches (50 (front), 65 (back) by 75 by 455 mm). c. Provide sloped top surface and drip edge. 4. Receptacle and Light Fixture Stones—Chamfered Edges w/ Grooved Border: a. Color: Taupe. b. Size: Manufacturer’s standard sizes to accommodate fixtures specified. c. Provide single receptacle 2 by 4 by 1-1/2 inch (50 by 100 by 38 mm) UL approved metal extension box. 5. Hearthstones: a. Color: Chardonnay. b. Size: 19 by 20 by 1-1/2 inches (150 by 205 by 38 mm). E. Manufactured Masonry Physical Properties: 1. Compressive Strength: ASTM C 192 and ASTM C39, 1800 psi (12.4 MPa), 5 specimen average, 1500 psi (10.3 MPa) minimum for individual unit. 2. Bond Between Stone Unit, Type S Mortar, and Backing: ASTM C 482, 50 psi (345 kPa). BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 STONE VENEER ASSEMBLIES 04860-4 3. Thermal Resistance: ASTM C 177, R-factor, 0.355 per inch (25.4 mm) of thickness. 4. Freeze/Thaw: ASTM C 67, no disintegration and less than 3 percent weight loss. 5. Fire Hazard Test, UL 723: a. Flame spread: 0. b. Smoke Development: 0. 6. Maximum Veneer Unit Weight: 15 psf (73 kg/m2). 2.2 RELATED MATERIALS A. Mortar: 1. Premixed Type N or mortar mixed using components and proportions following manufactured masonry manufacturer's installation instructions. Comply with ASTM C 270. a. Mortar Color: Light Buff. 2. Mixing: a. Mix proprietary materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, including product data and product technical bulletins. Thoroughly mix mortar ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in accordance with ASTM C 270, Type N. Do not use antifreeze compounds to lower the freezing point to mortar. B. Weather Risistant Barrier: Kraft waterproof building paper, UBC Standard No. 14-1 or ASTM D226 for Type 1 felt. C. Metal Lath: 18 gauge galvanized woven wire mesh or galvanized 2.5 lb (1.1 kg) flat diamond mesh. D. Fasteners: 1. Into Wood Studs: Minimum 0.120 inch (3 mm) shank diameter galvanized nails or staples of sufficient length to penetrate 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) minimum into the stud. 2.3 SOURCE QUALITY A. Source Quality: Obtain materials from a single manufacturer. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS A. Compliance: Comply with manufacturer’s product data, including product technical bulletins, product catalog installation instructions and product carton instructions for installation. 3.2 EXAMINATION 1. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify substrate conditions, which have been previously installed under other sections, are acceptable for product installation in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 STONE VENEER ASSEMBLIES 04860-5 3.3 PREPARATION A. Sheathed Surfaces: Install 1 layer of weather resistant barrier with lap joints 4” shingle fashion. Apply code approved metal lath, attached with galvanized screws. Apply 6” on center vertically and at every 16” on center horizonatally. Wrap weather resistant barrier and metal lath a minimum of 16” around all outside and inside corners. 3.4 MANUFACTURED STONE VENEER INSTALLATION A. Mortar: Apply ½” – ¾” of mortar to lath, covering a maximum of 10 sq. ft. at one time. Press the units firmly into position in soft mortar bed, wiggle and apply slight pressure to unit to ensure firm bonding, causing mortar to extrude slightly around edges of units. B. Joints: Place units with uniform mortar joints. 1. Remove excess mortar; do not allow mortar to set up on face of units. Point [Rake] and tool joints before mortar has set. Clean and finish joints in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. 2. All interior manufactured stone veneer other than trim stones and thin brick veneer shall be dry stacked with no mortar joints. C. Setting Units: Press each stone into the mortar setting bed firmly enough to squeeze some mortar out around the stone’s edges. Apply pressure to the stone to ensure a good bond. Ensure complete coverage between the mortar bed and back surface of the stone. Mortar may also be applied to the entire back of the stone. D. Cutting: Perform necessary cutting with proper tools to provide uniform edges; take care to prevent breaking unit corners or edges. 3.5 CLEANING A. Remove temporary coverings and protection of adjacent work areas. Remove construction debris from project site and legally dispose of debris. B. Clean manufactured masonry in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions. 3.6 PROTECTION A. Protect finished work from rain during and for 48 hours following installation. B. Protect installed product and finish surfaces from damage during construction. END OF SECTION 04860
