Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Fiber-cement siding. 2. Fiber-cement Facia 3. Fiber-cement Panel Siding 4. Fiber-cement Trim 5. Aluminum soffit. B. Related Sections: 1. Division 6 Section "Rough Carpentry" for wood furring, grounds, nailers, and blocking. 2. Division 6 Section "Sheathing" for wall sheathing and weather-resistive barriers. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes. B. Samples for Verification: For each type, color, texture, and pattern required. 1. 12-inch- (300-mm-) long-by-actual-width Sample of siding. 2. 12-inch- (300-mm-) long-by-actual-width Sample of soffit. 3. 12-inch- (300-mm-) long-by-actual-width Samples of trim and accessories. C. Product Certificates: For each type of siding and soffit, from manufacturer. D. Product Test Reports: Based on evaluation of comprehensive tests performed by a qualified testing agency, for fiber-cement siding. E. Maintenance Data: For each type of siding and soffit and related accessories to include in maintenance manuals. F. Warranty: Sample of special warranty. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Labeling: Provide fiber-cement siding that is tested and labeled according to ASTM C 1186 by a qualified testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Source Limitations: Obtain each type, color, texture, and pattern of siding, including related accessories, from single source from single manufacturer. C. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Store materials in a dry, well-ventilated, weathertight place. 1.6 COORDINATION A. Coordinate installation with flashings and other adjoining construction to ensure proper sequencing. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace siding and soffit that fail(s) in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Structural failures including cracking, deforming, and fading. b. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal weathering. c. . 2. Fading is defined as loss of color, after cleaning with product recommended by manufacturer, of more than 5 Hunter color-difference units as measured according to ASTM D 2244. 3. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. 1.8 EXTRA MATERIALS A. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. 1. Furnish full lengths of siding and soffit including related accessories, in a quantity equal to 2 percent of amount installed. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 FIBER-CEMENT SIDING A. General: ASTM C 1186, Type A, Grade II, fiber-cement board, noncombustible when tested according to ASTM E 136; with a flame-spread index of 25 or less when tested according to ASTM E 84. 1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Select Cedarmill© or comparable product by one of the following: BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 SIDING 07460 - 3 a. James Hardie. 2. Horizontal Lap Pattern: Boards 7-1/4 to 7-1/2 inches (184 to 190 mm) wide. a. Style:HardiePlank® Lap Siding, Select Cedarmill© b. Texture: Wood grain. c. Exposure: 6” 3. Shingle Pattern: 48-inch- (1200-mm-) wide, staggered-edge notched sheets with wood- grain texture. a. Style: HardieShingle® Siding, Staggered-Edge Panel 4. Panel Siding: 48” wide x 96” long x 5/16” thick panel siding a. Style: HardiePanel®, Smooth 5. Trim: a. Style: HardieTrim® NT3 Boards, Smooth b. Size: provide sizes below where indicated on the drawings. 1) 3 ½” wide by 1” thick at all unit HVAC louvers, window jambs and sills, along bottom of soffits, and as indicated on the drawings. 2) 5 ½” wide by 1” thick at all building corners, horizontal trim, window and door lintel trim, gable trim, behind the urethane brackets, and as indicated on the drawings. 3) 7 ¼” wide by 1” thick at facia, and as indicated on the drawings. 6. Factory Priming: Manufacturer's standard acrylic primer. 7. Color: a. Horizontal Lap Siding: Timber Bark, JH40-30 b. Shingle Siding: Sandstone Beige, JH30-20 c. Panel Siding: Arctic White, JH10-20 d. Trim: Arctic White, JH10-20 2.2 ALUMINUM SOFFIT A. General: Formed and coated aluminum soffit complying with AAMA 1402. 1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide T-4 solid and T-4 fully vented, prefinished, aluminum soffit or comparable product by one of the following: a. Gentek Building Products, Inc. B. Pattern: 12-inch (300-mm) exposure in V-grooved, triple, 4-inch (152-mm) board style. C. Texture: Smooth. D. Ventilation: Provide full-vent perforated and unperforated soffit as indicated on the drawings. 1. Net-Free Area: 11.5 square inches/foot min. See limitations to the total net free ventilation area required on the roof plan. E. Nominal Thickness: .032 inch aluminum. 1. Colors: White or Bright White as selected from Manufacturer’s color samples to match facia and trim, gutters, and downspouts. BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 SIDING 07460 - 4 2.3 ACCESSORIES A. Siding Accessories, General: Provide starter strips, edge trim, outside and inside corner caps, and other items as recommended by siding manufacturer for building configuration. 1. Provide accessories matching color and texture of adjacent siding unless otherwise indicated. B. Aluminum Accessories: Where aluminum accessories are indicated, provide accessories complying with AAMA 1402. 1. Texture: Smooth. C. Flashing: Provide aluminum flashing complying with Division 7 Section "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim" at window and door heads and where indicated. 1. Finish for Aluminum Flashing: Siliconized polyester coating, same color as trim. D. Fasteners: 1. For fastening to wood, use siding nails of sufficient length to penetrate a minimum of 1 inch (25 mm) into substrate. 2. For fastening aluminum, use aluminum fasteners. Where fasteners will be exposed to view, use prefinished aluminum fasteners in color to match item being fastened. 3. For fastening fiber cement, use stainless-steel fasteners. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of siding and soffit and related accessories. B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Clean substrates of projections and substances detrimental to application. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. General: Comply with siding and soffit manufacturer's written installation instructions applicable to products and applications indicated unless more stringent requirements apply. 1. Do not install damaged components. B. Install aluminum soffit and related accessories according to AAMA 1402. 1. Install fasteners no more than 12 inches (600 mm) o.c. C. Install fiber-cement siding and related accessories. BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 SIDING 07460 - 5 1. Install fasteners no more than 24 inches (600 mm) o.c. D. Install joint sealants as specified in Division 7 Section "Joint Sealants" and to produce a weathertight installation. E. Where aluminum siding will contact dissimilar metals, protect against galvanic action by painting contact surfaces with primer or by applying sealant or tape or installing nonconductive spacers as recommended by manufacturer for this purpose. 3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Remove damaged, improperly installed, or otherwise defective materials and replace with new materials complying with specified requirements. B. Clean finished surfaces according to manufacturer's written instructions and maintain in a clean condition during construction. END OF SECTION 07460
