Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following: 1. Portable fire extinguishers. 2. Fire-protection cabinets for the following: a. Portable fire extinguishers. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for fire-protection cabinets. 1. Fire Extinguishers: Include rating and classification. 2. Fire-Protection Cabinets: Include roughing-in dimensions, details showing mounting methods, relationships of box and trim to surrounding construction, door hardware, cabinet type, trim style, and panel style. B. Maintenance Data: For fire extinguishers and fire-protection cabinets to include in maintenance manuals. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Source Limitations: Obtain fire extinguishers and fire-protection cabinets through one source from a single manufacturer. B. NFPA Compliance: Fabricate and label fire extinguishers to comply with NFPA 10, "Portable Fire Extinguishers." C. Fire Extinguishers: Listed and labeled for type, rating, and classification by an independent testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. 1. Provide fire extinguishers approved, listed, and labeled by FMG. 1.5 COORDINATION A. Coordinate size of fire-protection cabinets to ensure that type and capacity of fire extinguishers indicated are accommodated. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of portable fire extinguishers that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Failure of hydrostatic test according to NFPA 10. b. Faulty operation of valves or release levers. 2. Warranty Period: Six years from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. In other Part 2 articles where titles below introduce lists, the following requirements apply to product selection: 1. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, manufacturers specified. 2.2 MATERIALS A. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheet: ASTM A 1008/A 1008M, Commercial Steel (CS), Type B. B. Tempered Float Glass: ASTM C 1048, Kind FT, Condition A, Type I, Quality q3, 3 mm thick, Class 1 (clear). 2.3 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS A. Available Manufacturers: 1. JL Industries, Inc. 2. Kidde Fyrnetics. 3. Larsen's Manufacturing Company. B. General: Provide fire extinguishers of type, size, and capacity for each fire-protection cabinet indicated. 1. Valves: Manufacturer's standard. 2. Handles and Levers: Manufacturer's standard. 3. Instruction Labels: Include pictorial marking system complying with NFPA 10, Appendix B and bar coding for documenting fire extinguisher location, inspections, maintenance, and recharging. C. Multipurpose Dry-Chemical Type in Steel Container: UL-rated 3-A:40-B:C, 5-lb and 10-lb nominal capacity, with mono ammonium phosphate-based dry chemical in enameled-steel container. Location: a. 5-lb: Laundry 033 (in extinguisher cabinet), Elect 300A (wall mount), Salon 410 (in base cabinet), and Serving Kitchen 521 (in sink base cabinet) b. 10-lb: All corridors (in extinguisher cabinet), Mech/Sprink 025 (wall mount), Mech 221 (wall mount), and Mech 526A (wall mount). D. Wet-Chemical Type in Steel Container: UL-rated Class K, 1.8 gallon, 22.5-lb nominal capacity, with a low PH potassium acetate and potassium citrate solution in a stainless steel container. 1. Location: Kitchen 019 (wall mount). 2.4 FIRE-PROTECTION CABINET A. Available Manufacturers: 1. JL Industries, Inc. 2. Kidde Fyrnetics. 3. Larsen's Manufacturing Company. B. Cabinet Type: Suitable for fire extinguisher. C. Cabinet Construction: non-rated if used per detail 3/A1.1, or 1-hr rated if gyp. board wrapped opening is not desired. D. Cabinet Material: Enameled-steel sheet. E. Semi-recessed Cabinet: Cabinet box partially recessed in walls of shallow depth to suit style of trim indicated; with one-piece combination trim and perimeter door frame overlapping surrounding wall surface with exposed trim face and wall return at outer edge (backbend). 1. Rolled-Edge Trim: 3 inch backbend depth. F. Cabinet Trim Material: Steel sheet. G. Door Material: Steel sheet. H. Door Style: Vertical duo panel with frame. I. Door Glazing: Tempered float glass (clear). J. Door Hardware: Manufacturer's standard door-operating hardware of proper type for cabinet type, trim style, and door material and style indicated. 1. Provide projecting lever handle with cam-action latch. 2. Provide continuous hinge, of same material and finish as trim, permitting door to open 180 degrees. K. Accessories: 1. Door Lock: Cam lock that allows door to be opened during emergency by pulling sharply on door handle. 2. Identification: Lettering complying with authorities having jurisdiction for letter style, size, spacing, and location. Locate as indicated by Architect. Identify fire extinguisher in fire-protection cabinet with the words "FIRE EXTINGUISHER." 1) Location: Applied to cabinet door. 2) Application Process: Decals Pressure-sensitive vinyl letters. 3) Lettering Color: Black. 4) Orientation: Vertical. L. Finishes: 1. Manufacturer's standard baked-enamel paint for the following: a. Exterior of cabinet, door, and trim, except for those surfaces indicated to receive another finish. b. Interior of cabinet and door. 2. Steel: Baked enamel. a. Color and Texture: White, smooth. 2.5 FABRICATION A. Fire-Protection Cabinets: Provide manufacturer's standard box (tub), with trim, frame, door, and hardware to suit cabinet type, trim style, and door style indicated. 1. Weld joints and grind smooth. B. Cabinet Doors: Fabricate doors according to manufacturer's standards, from materials indicated and coordinated with cabinet types and trim styles selected. 1. Fabricate door frames with tubular stiles and rails and hollow-metal design, minimum 1/2 inch (13 mm) thick. 2. Miter and weld perimeter door frames. C. Cabinet Trim: Fabricate cabinet trim in one piece with corners mitered, welded, and ground smooth. 2.6 FINISHES, GENERAL A. Comply with NAAMM's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products" for recommendations for applying and designating finishes. B. Finish fire-protection cabinets after assembly. C. Appearance of Finished Work: Variations in appearance of abutting or adjacent pieces are acceptable if they are within one-half of the range of approved Samples. Noticeable variations in the same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of other components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast. 2.7 STEEL FINISHES BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 PR #1 2/25/2013 FIRE-PROTECTION SPECIALTIES 10520 - 5 A. Surface Preparation: Clean surfaces of dirt, oil, grease, mill scale, rust, and other contaminants that could impair paint bond using manufacturer's standard methods. B. Baked-Enamel Finish: Immediately after cleaning and pretreating, apply manufacturer's standard two-coat, baked-enamel finish consisting of prime coat and thermosetting topcoat. Comply with paint manufacturer's written instructions for applying and baking to achieve a minimum dry film thickness of 2 mils (0.05 mm). PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine walls and partitions for suitable framing depth and blocking where semirecessed cabinets will be installed. B. Examine fire extinguishers for proper charging and tagging. 1. Remove and replace damaged, defective, or undercharged units. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Prepare recesses for semirecessed fire-protection cabinets as required by type and size of cabinet and trim style. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. General: Install fire-protection specialties in locations and at mounting heights indicated or, if not indicated, at heights indicated below: 1. Fire-Protection Cabinets: 54 inches (1372 mm) above finished floor to top of cabinet. B. Fire-Protection Cabinets: Fasten fire-protection cabinets to structure, square and plumb. 1. Semi-recessed fire-protection cabinets in wall as indicated on the drawings. C. Identification: Apply decals at locations indicated. 3.4 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Remove temporary protective coverings and strippable films, if any, as fire-protection specialties are installed, unless otherwise indicated in manufacturer's written installation instructions. B. Adjust fire-protection cabinet doors to operate easily without binding. Verify that integral locking devices operate properly. C. On completion of fire-protection cabinet installation, clean interior and exterior surfaces as recommended by manufacturer. Touch up marred finishes, or replace fire-protection cabinets that cannot be restored to factory- finished appearance. Use only materials and procedures recommended or furnished by fire- protection cabinet manufacturer. E. Replace fire-protection cabinets that have been damaged or have deteriorated beyond successful repair by finish touchup or similar minor repair procedures. END OF SECTION 10520
