SECTION 15453
PLUMBING PUMPS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section.
1.2 CODES AND STANDARDS
A. UL and NEMA Compliance:
Provide electric motors and components which are listed and labeled by Underwriters
Laboratories and comply with NEMA standards.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data
Submit manufacturer's pump specifications, installation and start-up instructions, and
current accurate pump characteristics performance curves with selection points clearly
indicated.
B. Shop Drawings
Wiring Diagrams - Submit manufacturer’s wiring diagrams for review by the Engineer,
upon review furnish copies of the reviewed submittal to the electrical contractor for
coordination with their work.
C. Operating and Maintenance Manuals
Submit Operating and Maintenance Manuals in accordance with Specification Section
15010 containing, but not limited too, all information required therein.
D. Training
Provide services of manufacturer's technical representative for one 2-hour day to instruct
Owner's personnel in operation and maintenance.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 IN-LINE RECIRCULATION PUMPS
A. Provide in-line recirculation pumps where indicated, and of capacities as scheduled. All
bronze construction. Horizontal, oil-lubricated, designed for 125 psi working pressure,
225 degrees F (107 degrees C) continuous water temperature, and specifically designed
for quiet operation.
1. Body
Provide bronze construction.
2. Shaft
Provide steel, ground and polished, integral thrust collar.
3. Bearings

Provide two horizontal sleeve bearings designed to circulate oil.
4. Seal
Provide mechanical seal, with carbon steel face rotating against ceramic seat.
5. Motor
Provide non-overloading at any point on pump curve, open, drip-proof, sleeve
bearings, quiet operating, rubber mounted construction, built-in thermal overload
protection.
6. Coupling
Provide self-aligning, flexible coupling.
7. Manufacturer
Subject to compliance with requirements, provide inline recirculation pumps of one of
the following:
Paco Taco
Thrush Bell & Gossett
Armstrong
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION OF PUMPS
A. Install plumbing pumps where indicated, in accordance with manufacturer's published
installation instructions, complying with recognized industry practices to ensure that
plumbing pumps comply with requirements and serve intended purposes. Pumps shall be
installed on and anchored to housekeeping pads via expansion anchor or similar means.
Pad height shall be a minimum of 4” AFF, and pump base shall be grouted solid.
B. Pumps shall be arranged and installed so as to provide access space around plumbing
pumps for service as indicated, but in no case less than that recommended by
manufacturer. Install electrical devices furnished by manufacturer but not specified to be
factory-mounted. Furnish copy of manufacturer’s wiring diagrams and housekeeping pad
layout drawings to Electrical and General Contractor for coordination with their work.
