HomeMy WebLinkAbout15488.pdf BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 NATURAL GAS SYSTEMS 15488-1 SECTION 15488 NATURAL GAS SYSTEMS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification sections, apply to this section. 1.2 COORDINATION A. The Contractor shall coordinate his work with other mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and field measure, as required, prior to fabrication to facilitate a complete installation. 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data Submit product data for each gas piping specialty including, but not limited to, pipe, unions, fittings, valves, gas cocks, etc. Include rated capacities of selected models, furnished specialties and accessories, and installation instructions. B. Test Reports Submit written documentation and certification to the engineer for review upon completion of testing activities required under Part 3 Execution. C. Operating and Maintenance Manuals Submit Operating and Maintenance Manuals in accordance with Specification Section 15010 containing, but not limited too, all information required therein. 1.4 VERIFICATION A. Investigate the existing and proposed structural and finished conditions affecting the piping, and arrange the equipment accordingly, furnishing required fittings, offsets, and accessories. Route piping to avoid interference with other mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Consult with the Engineer before making any changes in the event it becomes necessary to make changes in pipe locations due to the building construction. Any such changes required shall be made without added cost to the Owner. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Regulatory Requirements Comply with the requirements of the following codes: 1. NFPA - 54 - National Fuel Gas Code, for gas piping materials and components, gas piping installations, and inspection, testing, and purging of gas piping systems. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering gas piping system products which may be incorporated in the work include, but are not limited to, the following: BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 NATURAL GAS SYSTEMS 15488-2 1. Gas Cocks: a. Jenkins Bros. b. Lunkenheimer Co. c. NIBCO, Inc. d. Powell Co. e. Stockham. 2.2 PIPE AND TUBING MATERIALS A. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 120, Schedule 40, seamless, black steel pipe, beveled ends. 2.3 FITTINGS A. Malleable-Iron Threaded Fittings: ANSI B16.3, Class 150, standard pattern, for threaded joints. Threads shall conform to ANSI B1.20.1. B. Steel Fittings: ASTM A 234, seamless or welded, for welded joints. 2.4 JOINING MATERIALS A. Joint Compound: Suitable for the gas being handled. B. Gasket Material: Thickness, material, and type suitable for gas to be handled, and for design temperatures and pressures. 2.5 PIPING SPECIALTIES A. Unions: ANSI B16.39, Class 150 black malleable iron; female pattern; brass to iron seat; ground joint. B. Dielectric Unions: ANSI B16.39, Class 250; malleable iron and cast bronze; with threaded or soldered end connections suitable for pipe to be joined; designed to isolate galvanic and stray current corrosion. 2.6 VALVES A. Gas Cocks 2 Inch and Smaller: 150 psi WOG, bronze body, straightaway pattern, square head, threaded ends. B. Gas Cocks 2-1/2 Inch and Larger: MSS SP-78; 175 psi, lubricated plug type, semi-steel body, single gland, wrench operated, flanged ends. C. Gas Pressure Reducing Regulators: Maxitrol Series 325 positive shut-off type, pounds to inches regulator, A.G.A. rated. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PIPE APPLICATIONS A. Install steel pipe with threaded joints and fittings for 2 inch and smaller, and with welded joints for 2-1/2 inch and larger. 3.2 PIPING INSTALLATIONS A. Conform to the requirements of NFPA 54 - National Fuel Gas Code. BICKFORD OF CARMEL, IN 12/12/2012 NATURAL GAS SYSTEMS 15488-3 3.3 VALVES, REGULATORS A. Conform to requirements of NFPA 54-National Fuel Gas Code. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Piping Tests Inspect, test, and purge natural gas systems in accordance with NFPA 54, and local utility requirements. 3.5 LABELING A. Piping in exposed areas and where concealed by suspended ceiling systems shall be labeled in accordance with Specification Section 15190 every 25 Ft for extended runs and a minimum of one time per room.
