SECTION 15528
HEAT PUMP FAN COIL UNIT
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS:
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and
Supplementary Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of
this section.
1.2 SUBMITTALS:
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data, including rated
capacities of selected model clearly indicated, dimensions, required clearances,
weights, furnished specialties and accessories; and installation and start-up
instructions.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE:
A. Codes and Standards:
1. Electric Heat Pump Indoor Unit construction shall be in accordance with U.L.
safety standards. Unit shall bear the U.L. label. Cooling coils shall be ARI
Certified and listed.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers
offering units which may be incorporated in the work include to, the following:
General Electric
2.2 General Description:
A. Units shall be factory-assembled and tested, designed for horizontal, or multiple
position installation. Capacities and electrical characteristics are as indicated on
the Drawings.
B. Cabinet: Heavy gauge galvanized sheet steel construction with baked on
enamel paint finish. Service access panels with blower section safety interlock
switch, leveling bolts and insulated cabinet.
C. Blower: Multiple speed motor, blowers statically and dynamically balanced and
resiliently mounted.
D. Air Filter: Washable frame type filter of polyurethane media coated with oil.
E. Indoor Coil Materials: 3/8 inch copper tubes and headers with aluminum fins
bonded to the tube. Fin spacing not to exceed 12 fins per inch.
F. Drain Pan: Provide coated galvanized steel or plastic drain pan.
2.3 Supplementary Electric Heater:

A. General: Factory-provided and field-installed.
B. Materials: Helix-wound nickel-chromium elements directly in air-stream.
C. Safety Controls: Each element equipped with limit control with fixed
temperature-off setting and automatic reset. Provide with emergency thermal
cut-off limit control.
D. Controls: Thermal sequencer relay to activate each element with the delay
between each. Thermal sequencer shall be capable of initiating and terminating
blower operation with heating control relay. Low voltage heater controls to
interface with indoor coil unit.
E. Enclosure: Heavy gauge galvanized steel, factory-assembled, with controls
installed and wired. Provide with circuit breaker(s) for overload and short circuit
protection as required to meet local codes.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION:
A. General: Install units in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions.
Install units plumb and level and maintain manufacturers recommended
clearances.
B. Start-Up Services: Provide a factory trained and authorized representative to
service and start-up the units and to provide the Owner with operating and
maintenance instructions.
3.2 DEMONSTRATION:
A. Test controls for compliance with requirements. Replace damaged or
malfunctioning controls and equipment. Demonstrate system operation to the
satisfaction of the Owner.
