SECTION 15870
POWER AND GRAVITY VENTILATORS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section.
1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Comply with the following Codes and Standards
1. AMCA Compliance
Provide power ventilators which have been tested and rated in accordance with AMCA
standards, and bear AMCA Certified Ratings Seal.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data
Submit manufacturer’s technical data for power and gravity ventilators, including
specifications, capacity ratings, dimensions, weights, materials, accessories furnished,
and installation instructions.
B. Operating and Maintenance Manuals
Submit Operating and Maintenance Manuals in accordance with Specification Section
15010 containing, but not limited too, all information required therein.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 CEILING VENTILATORS
A. Centrifugal Ceiling Exhausters
Provide centrifugal ceiling exhausters, designed for ceiling or in-line mounting, of type,
size and capacity as scheduled. Provide AMCA Certified Ratings Seal.
1. Type
Provide galvanized steel housing lined with acoustical insulation, adaptable for
ceiling or in-line installation. Provide centrifugal fan wheels mounted on motor shaft
with fan shrouds, all removable for service. Provide integral back draft damper fan
discharge.
2. Grille
Provide eggcrate inlet grille with flange on intake with thumbscrew attachment to fan
housing (not required for in-line application).
3. Motor
Provide permanent split-capacitor motor, permanently lubricated, with grounded cord
and plug.
4. Electrical
Provide junction box for electrical connection on housing.
2.2 CURB VENTILATORS
A. Centrifugal Roof Ventilator:

B. Provide centrifugal roof type, curb mounted, power ventilators of type, size, and
capacity scheduled, and as specified herein and for application intended.
C. Type:
Centrifugal fan, direct or belt driven as scheduled. Provide weatherproof
housing. Provide square base to suit roof curb. Provide aluminum hood,
housing, base and fan wheels. Fan wheels shall be centrifugal design, statically
and dynamically balanced. Motor and drive assembly shall be located out of
exhaust air system.
D. Electrical:
Provide factory-wired non-fusible type disconnect switch at motor in fan housing.
Provide thermal overload protection in fan motor. Provide conduit chase within
unit for electrical connection.
E. Accessories:
Provide accessories as scheduled on the drawings.
2.3 PREFABRICATED ROOF CURBS:
A. Provide manufacturer’s standard shop-fabricated units with 45 deg. cant strips.
Manufacturer to be same as supplier of roof mounted hoods.
B. Manufacturers:
Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering centrifugal
exhausters which may be incorporated in the work include, but are not limited to,
the following:

Briedert Co., C.G.
Carnes Co., Div. of Wehr Corp.
Twin City Fans
Cook Co., Loren.
ILG Industries.
Jenn Industries Inc.
Penn Ventilator Co., Inc.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION OF POWER VENTILATORS
A. Except as otherwise indicated or specified, install ventilators in accordance with
manufacturer’s installation instructions and recognized industry practices to insure that
ventilators serve their intended function.
3.2 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
A. Clean factory-finished surfaces. Repair any marred or scratched surfaces with
manufacturer’s touch-up paint.
