Subject: alley access .i 21 5th Ave. NE
Mike
Please consider allowing the Wilkinson project to construct alley access to their property on 5th Ave. NE.
The project is small scale, a max of 8 parking spaces, and using the alley for would help preserve more of the
residential green character of the site, eliminate the need to tear up the curb and yard of the property, and allow
space for one or two additional on-street spaces.
Your consideration would include a compromise for construction of the typical full depth asphalt paving in the
alley. These small proJeqts can't afford to spend 5-figures for a commercial pavement section - at least initially.
So I am. hopeful th-at a fairly generous timetable can be worked out for paving. I am certain we can get them to
plow their section and ensure the condition of the encroachment is well maintained.
Also, as a side note - I co'uld not find any review letter or TAC correspondence from engineering dept. on this
project. When I spoke with the owner after the BZA meeting, she had no idea a curb cut approval would be
necess.ary from the BPW: As you know, it helps greatly when your guys can get review letters out that match the
time frames for BZA and PC approval... this helps, among other things, to eliminate surprises and hard feelings
later down the road. .
I will follow-up when I getback in the office July 12.
Thanks
Mike H.

I win ask Jim about whether tHe sign size has been calculated,. but I do not intend on doing anything ,huge. Jim did put in
signs t9 the drawings becaus~ 'I had him show me where they were--basically a double placard for small hang up signs on
the house, and a small s!gn fqrmy business on the garage. I' expect that my sign will blend / coordinate with the house
colors which I expect to be a burgandy or black tri'm, and a gray or white main color '(I will be painting the tired red brick that I
do npt think I can clean up ).1he not so pretty green roof will be' replaced with a slate color or something that blends with the
others. Isthat specificenoug~?1 have thought :about this, but not narrowed down to specifics. I can guarantee I will not

Thanks for your answer.
As to the one I did not get bac~, I do hav~ the post: office stamped portion of the certified mailing that shows I was at the
post office that same day mailirg, outtheirs, so that is something to show.
I will then go to Jim's office an~ get another packet of material like the ones mailed to the TAC members and then make
nine copies. I'll bring those to you. I'm getting so excited, I just cannot even tell you.
How long is an average prese~tation in front of the BZA? How much is too much or not enough? Any pointers about what
should. be in the presentation? I
And, should I plan on taking the entire day off work on the 22nd--theTAC meetin~?
Are you in all week? I might try to hit you sometime in the first part of the day.
