7. State exptanation of requested Developmental Standards Variance: (State what you want to
do and cite the section number(s) of the Carmel/Clay Zoning Ordinance which applies and/or
creates the need for this request).
A. Carmel Clay Schools WQu'ld like to construct 2 institutional ~jgns on this site. These 2
~igns vvould be in addition tothe.2 institutional signs that already exist at each school
building. This exceeds the number of institutional signs allowed per S,ection 25.7.02-
5 of the Carmel/Clay Zoning Ordinance.
8. State reasons supporting the -.Developmental Standards Variance:
A. The size of the educational campus dictates that existing institutional signs be
located in proximity to, or on, the 3 school buildings. The 2 proposed institutional
signs will be located at the main campus entrances .and will advise visitors as to what
facilities are located on campus.

FINDINGS OF FACT - DEVELOPMENTAL STANDARDS VARIANCE
1. The approval of this variance will not be injurious to the public health, safety, morals, and
general welfare of the communitybecau~e:
The institutional signs are required to clearly and' safely advise patrons as to the educational
faciiities located on this camp~s.
2. The use and value of the area adjacent to the property included in the variance will not be
affected in a substantially adverse manner because:
The signage will be kept as low in height as practicaL The overall design will be compatible
with the school buildings, including the use of similar .cators and brick and limestone
materials. Appropriate landscaping will be provided at the signs to further enhance the
aesthetic appeal of the site.
3. The strict application of the terms of the Zoning Ordinance to the property will result in
practical difficulties in the use of the property because:
The number of institutional signs allowed does not provide for adequately informing the
- publ.ic of the many educational facilities on this large campus when approaching the main
entrance drives.
