EXPLANA TION
Ed Martin North Corp. ("Ed Martin") is the owner of a parcel of real estate
located at the northwest comer of Marie Drive and 96th Street. This site is currently the
home of the Ed Martin Acura store, and the common address is 3800 East 96th Street,
Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. Ed Martin desires to undertake an exterior renovation .ofthe
existing dealership. In order to do so, Ed Martin is seeking architectural design, lighting
and signage approval for the proposed exterior renovation and associated signage.
The Ed Martin dealership previously contained Pontiac, GMC and Acura vehicles
for sale. However, Ed Martin has transferred the Pontiac and GMC aspects of the
dealership to its store located on Michigan Road, making the 96th Street dealership an
exclusively Acura dealership. In order to make this conversion, Acura requires that Ed
Martin participate in the "Acura Image Program" which mandates certain architectural
standards of design for the building exterior so as to appear consistent with other
exclusively Acura dealerships across the nation. The exterior building materials favored
by the Acura Image Program consists of an Aluco bond panel and EFIS, along with a
raised parapet featuring the Acura icon. The proposed building materials are consistent
with other dealerships located along the 96th Street corridor and the proposed exterior will
blend in nicely with its surroundings. The dimenSions and building materials of the
proposed. exterior renovation are contained in Exhibits 5 and 6 of this informational
brochure.
The existing building contains a wall identification sign and ground sign on the
96th Street frontage, as well as a ground identification sign on the Marie Drive frontage.
Ed Martin proposes to retain the existing ground sign on Marie Drive, which sign will be
retrofit to reflect the change in the focus of this dealership, and yet continue to identify
the location of the service department. A photograph of this sign is shown on Exhibit 8
in this brochure. Regarding the 96th Street frontage, Ed Martin proposes to (i) replace the
existing Ed Martin wall identification sign with the raised parapet featuring the Acura
icon and name and (ii) replace the existing ground sign with a second wall identification
sign featuring the Ed Martin name. Details of this signage are included in this
informational brochure as Exhibits 9 and 10. If the architectural design, style and size of
the second wall identification sign are approved by this committee, Ed Martin will
petition the Board of Zoning Appeals for a Developmental Standards Variance permitting
the same.

Studies Committee at its October 5, 2004 meeting.
