Rendering of proposed Autobase Sign
H:kJanetkAutobase\TOC-SSC 113004.doc
EXPLANATION
Autobase, Inc. ("Autobase") is intending, as a tenant, to occupy the 5t~ and 6t~
floors of the Meridian Tower office building ("Meridian Tower") located south of 103ra
Street, east of Spring Mill Road, and noah of 1-465, with a common address of 201 103~a
Street West, Indianapolis, Indiana 46290. The subject real estate is presently zoned B-1
(Business District), and Meridian Tower is considered a multi-tenant, multi-level office
building under the Cannel/Clay Zoning Ordinance.
An important consideration in Autobase's decision to move into Meridian Tower
was their ability to have a more visible presence along 1-465. As a result, central to
Autobase's decision to occupy the fifth and sixth floor in Meridian Tower was the
placement of the identifying wall sign on the southern facade of Meridian Tower. To
permit the wall sign, Autobase has filed this application for Architectural Design,
Lighting, and Signage amendment.
The proposed sign will read "Autobase", and will be located on the southern
facade of Meridian Tower facing 1-465. As measured by the Zoning Ordinance, the
dimensions of the sign are 82 ¼ inches high by 21 feet 7 inches long, and the sign
occupies approximately 147.94 square feet. Without the triangular logo, the sign
occupies approximately 50 square feet. The sign will consist of internally illuminated
channel letters with white-acrylic, translucent faces, illuminated with white neon letter
returns. The sign will be mounted flat to the wall surface, and the aluminum letter returns
will be painted bronze.
Concurrently with this request, Autobase is also requesting BZA approval of two
variances necessary to permit the size and location of the sign. We look forward to
presenting the request to the Special Studies Committee of the Plan Commission at the
meeting scheduled for November 30, 2004.
Respectfully submitted,
Charles D. ~Frankenberge~ -'
