Attached please find a copy of the Landscape As-built which I received from the landscape contractor this afternoon. As we discussed Friday, the Sterling Silver Lindens originally called out. on the plan were replaced by Royal Red Norway Maples. Additionally, the Seedless Green Ashes were replaced Summit Ashes. I understand your concern with the predominance of Maples that we now have on this site, but it appears to have been an availability issue with regard to both substitutions. Please let me know if the substitutions that have been made am acceptable to you. If they are not, please allow Progressive to occupy the building under the condition that the appropriate trees are substituted as soon as they are available. Aisc, the additional Colorado Spruce you mentioned to replace the second existing tree that was removed on the west side of the property will be added as soon as possible. My understanding is that the work to remove the mulch from around the trunks was to have been completed over the week-end If you want to discuss specific substitutions and/or modifications, or any additional issues you may have, please contact me as so~n as possible so that we can determine an appropriate coume of action and I can communicate that to the landscape contractor and the general contractor. US 36, Suite 500 Avon, Indiana 46123 Dear Dan: My comments on the landscape plans for this project are as follows' This project is covered by the Cannel Zoning Perimeter Buffeting requirements found in Section 26.4. Using level A of the requirements, the proposed plan is short 12 shade trees, 3 ornamental trees, and 9 evergreens (or 27 shrubs). Please revise the plan showing the required number of plants. I would suggest the areas not being shown with plants which are available for planting, such as the sodded or seeded islands in the parking lot, be utilized as space the lacking plant materials. . The graphic details which cover planting specifications must include a note that the plant's root flare must be placed at ground level, and a note that all staking and wiring must be removed after one year. Species comments: Acer campestre. Hedge Maple, this species suffers from several problems in this area, and must receive increased maintenance for pests. Acer ginnala Amur Maple is a much better species for this area. Acer rubrum. 'Bowhall' Bowhall Red Maple is a very narrow branched, upright growing form used mainly where sign conflicts are prevalent. Red Maples do not do well in parking lot and stressed lawn situations. Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) or Sterling Lindens (Tilia tomentosa) would be a more appropriate choice. Pyrus calleryana. Please do not use ornamental pear species. They are weak branched, and not long lived. There is an increasing body of evidence that the cultivars hybridize and become invasive in natural areas. ONE CIVIC SQUARE CARMEL, INDIANA 46032 317/571-2417 Pinus nigra. Austrian Pine suffers from a variety of disease and pest problems that limit the use and length of life in the area. Please choose an evergreen species other than two-needle pines. Norway spruce (Picea glauca), white fur (Abies concolor), or Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga) would be appropriate choices. Please reply to these comments in writing and by amended plans. Please contact me at 571-2478 or by email at Sbrewer~ci.carmel.in.us, if you have questions.
