Hi Andrew,
I'm sorry for the delay on this one. It has been very hectic here and I am training a new person to take over sign permits
while I am gone for my wedding and honeymoon in the month of September. His name is Drew and he is copied on this
email. We do need the business owner and property owner's approval before we can release the permit. Please send
this as soon as you can.
Thanks,
Rachel

Good morning Rachel-
I am told AHN was approved (via variance)for a new reverse lit channel letter sign as detailed in the attached rendering.
Is there anything else required on top of the variance paperwork?

Hi Andrew,
Yes, because of the new sign ordinance, multi story office buildings are now allowed to have two signs facing one street
frontage. However, the signs must be spaced symmetrically on the building. This placement would require a variance.
Here is a link to the Sign Ordinance. Pages 8-10 deal with Multi tenant buildings. But I have outlined the items that
pertain to this question below.
b) NUMBER &TYPE:
2. Multi-Tenant, Multi-Level Office Building
a. Per Building: Two(2) Identification signs per Street Frontage, maximum six (6).
c) MAXIMUM SIGN AREA:
8. Wall:
a. 70 percent of tenant's Spandrel Panel height.
b. 85 percent of tenant's Spandrel Panel width, with a 10 percent leeway allowance for architectural
elements that may hinder sign visibility.
c. Spandrel Panel on a glass building will be determined by separation details between the panes of glass
and/or by floor levels.Signs on glass buildings may not obscure vision of tenants inside the building.
e) LOCATION:
9. Wall&Complex Identification (Wall):
c. For Multi-Tenant, Multi-Level Office buildings,Wall signs facing the same Street Frontage must be
placed symmetrically within the Spandrel Panel, i.e. one on each end of the Façade. If a Wall sign is
placed in the middle of the Spandrel Panel, no other Wall sign may be placed on that same Façade.
So,the last one is the biggest issue that you would need overcome by applying for a variance. I believe they already
know they have to do this. I have spoken with an attorney about it,who is either advising them or planning to bring the
variance through for them. Here is a link to the variance application and calendar for your reference. The next BZA
hearing is July 22, but the deadline for filing is this Friday. I can be flexible, but only by a few days. If this is too soon, the
next hearing is August 26th with a filing deadline of July 12tH
I am attaching a copy of the sign permit for Sandor for your reference.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel-
I have a client that would like to contract us to manufacture and install the reverse lit channel letter sign as detailed in
the attached rendering.
I understood that last year only one sign was permitted on this building but I am told by the client that two signs are
now permitted.
Before I submit the application, would you kindly review the size and note any remarks regarding this future
installation?
Thanks, look forward to seeing you.

Subject: Signage for 10689 N. Pennsylvania
Categories: Sign Review
Good morning Rachel,
I work with American Health Network and we recently moved into the Sandor building at 10689 N. Pennsylvania (we are
occupying the 2nd & 3rd floors and there would be no other tenants except for us & Sandor). I believe that Andrew
McQueenie of Essential Signs had contacted you at one point regarding the signage for the building and we had him put
together some renderings. We know there were some sign ordinance issues for the building and, from what we
understand, there have been some recent changes in the ordinance—so we're not sure if there would still be a need to
get a variance on any of this. For the signage, we would make every effort to match the color and font style of the
existing Sandor sign.
Any direction or letting us know what next steps we need to take would be greatly appreciated. Also, just as an FYI, our
operations head told me that when we were in negotiations for the building lease, Sid Eskenazi (Sandor head &our
landlord) stated that he'd discussed with Carmel's mayor Jim Brainard that each floors tenant would be approved for
exterior signage— Floors 1 & 3 could have signage on each of the towers and the 2 Floor tenant (largest sq/ft)would
have ability to obtain signage over the Center of the building and that Mr. Eskenazi would be willing to get any necessary
approvals as well, if that would help.
Thank you,
Julian
