Article on the Select USA conference in Washington DC, includes these
references to Carmel in the beginning and at the end:
...the Select USA 2013 Investment Summit-- where a mayor from a town such
as Carmel, Ind., population 85,000, could pitch the advantages of his new city
center to such people as Lin Zuoming, president of China's giant aviation
conglomerate, AVIC.
And for Carmel Mayor James Brainard, it was even more intimate, bringing him
face to face with a high-ranking executive and Communist Party central
committee member from China, which is hungrily searching for property and
businesses around the world.
Nailing down investors "is a real contest,"he said in front of a display showing off
his town's Money magazine Best-Place-to-Live Award and photos of its many
new buildings. "They probably haven't heard of Indiana. And certainly not
Carmel."

ROB DEROCKER
• Reached out again to ASH CEO George DeVries and his staff conducting
New York media appointments, possibly with Mayor Brainard. George's
schedule in New York did not permit appointments in early September, but
we agreed to look at alternative dates, possibly in November.
November Work Plan
• Follow up on appointments scheduled at Select USA Conference
• Continue to look for ways to publicize the "Day Two" story of the ASH
announcement, especially the aspect of how a service facility was
transformed into a headquarters move.
• Make a second effort to coordinate with Mayor and George DeVries of
ASH regarding possible media appointments in New York sometime in
November or December.
• Follow up with Steve Inskeep of National Public Radio regarding a story
on Carmel, reported perhaps when he is in Carmel for Thanksgiving. The
Mayor's appointment to the White House Task Force on climate change.
• Continue outreach to site consultants with Carmel updates — most notably
the ASH announcement -- and an invitation for them to consider Carmel
for the corporate expansions and relocations they are managing. Also,
continue sharing relevant new Carmel publicity and Carmel developments
with regional and national media throughout the U.S. and European and
Asian media
• Share (with the Mayor and Nancy Heck) appropriate media leads that
come our way; follow up appropriately.
• Continue outreach for potential speaking engagements for the Mayor in
business and economic development forums.
