COMMERCIAL BUILDING PERMIT PROCEDURE
Includes: New Structures, Additions, & Remadels

Submit State approved and stamped plans to:
— Camiel Fire Dept...three sets. (Applications for local Improvement Location Permits
are available at the Fire Dept. at thisjuncture.)
-- Appropriate utility servicing site for water & sewer
SECOND: After Carme] Fire Dept. approval is received, submit two copies of construction plans*
(stamped approved by FP & BS aad the CFD), along with an Improvement Location
Permit application (ILP) to:
-- Permit Services office. Include landscape, ]ighting plans, as approved by the Plan
Commission or Board of Zoning Appeals, if applicable. At this time, plans must be
accompanied by a sewer permit. *Interim plans can be accepted when accompanied
by a notarized aff davit (provided by the City of Carmel/Clay Townsl:ip) arirl a
Founclation Release and/or Interim Release from the State. Several DOCS staff
member•s are notnries.
Regardi�g INT�RIM projects:
a. If our Department is in the process of reviewing interim plans and we receive notice from
the State that a fuli retease has been approved for that project, the interim plans must be replaced
with the fully released, stamped plans prior to release.
b. In every case, ioterim released plans must be.replaced with the fully released, stamped
plans from the State by, the time of final inspection.

TENANT SPACE BUILDING PERMIT PROCEDURE
FIRST: Submit plans*•and obtain approvals�rom:
-- The Indiana Dept. of Fire Prevention& Building Safety
-- State approved/ stamped plans (three sets) to the Carmel Fire Dept. (571-2600)
SECOND: After approval by the Carmel Fire Dept., submit t�vo copies of construction plans
(stamped by Fire Prevention & Building Safety and by the Carmel Fire Dept.) to
Permit Services office for review and issuance of an Improvement Location Pemiit (ILP).
*Interim plans can be nccepted wlie�r nccompanied by an affitlavit provided by the City of
Cannel/Clay Township, m:d a Foutidalion Release antl/or Interim Release jroni the State.

story buildin�.
NOTE: Exemptions from Design Release Requirement from the State of Indiana are
covered under General Administrative Rule 675 IAC 12-6-4. If this Rule applies,
you may still be�required to obCain a permit from the Dept. of Community Services �
under Carmel City Code D-700 Buildiug Code and CarmeUClay Zoning Ordinance
Z-289, Chapter 29.0 "Administration", section 29.4.2 "Im�rovement Locatio❑
Permits." �
