BZA 9.28.87 Browning request for a satellite dish CARMEL BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS September 28, 1987 Applicant: Browning Investments, Inc. for Technology Center Associates, Ltd. Project: 550 Congressional Boulevard Meridian Technology Center .1 Variance Petition .1 Applicant's variance petition is for the location of ane six foot, six .1 inch satellite dish antenna on the roof of the 550 Congressional Boulevard building in the Meridian Technology Center. Applicant does not believe the satellite dish ordinance contemplated a commercial building which is surrounded by three front yards and contains a rear yard which has direct and complete exposure to the public right-of-ways. Applicant is therefore requesting placement of the antenna on the roof of the 550 Congressional Boulevard building where only a small portion of the satellite antenna will be visible from distances over 500 feet in the direction of the northeast and southeast. 1 Petitioner Mark W. Tower One - Suite 150 11550 North Meridian St. 111 Carmel , IN 46032 Re: CNA Building Satellite Dish Installation Li Dear Mark: w We have reviewed the satellite dish information which Rich Fitzgerald 1 sent us and we offer the following commentary: According to the "Antenna Characteristics" , the 1 .8 meter (diameter) dish and its mounting stand weight a total of 135 pounds and require a 6 ' x 6' space. This is less weight than an average man and spread over a much larger area. We understand that the base is free- standing and is not anchored to the roof in any way. r As we discussed by phone, I recommend that the unit be located over column B/4. I see no apparent structural problems in the roof associated with the installation of the dish as outlined above. Yours truly, r 70r5 Lee Modlin LEM/em r- 14500 EAST 136TH STREET, NOBLESVILLE, INDIANA 46060, PHONE 317;485-5152 -7- r i i ANTENNA CHARACTERISTICS Physical Dimension: 1 .8 meters (5.9 feet) 1.8 Meter Characteristics Antenna weight = 55 lbs . Antenna mount weight = 80 lbs. Requires approximately 6' x 6 ' roof space. Stands approximately 6' in height Wind Loading Factors: • 10 MPH = 11 foot/pounds • 20 MPH = 46 foot/pounds • 30 MPH = 103 foot/pounds • 40 MPH = 183 foot/pounds • 50 MPH = 286 foot/pounds • 60 MPH = 419 foot/pounds • 70 MPH = 561 foot/pounds • 80 MPH = 732 foot/pounds • 90 MPH = 927 foot/pounds • 100 MPH = 1144 foot/pounds The antenna requires no electricity. The antenna requires no FCC license and is a passive receiver. The antenna is constructed of fiberglass and aluminum. The mount is constructed of ordinary pipe material . The antenna system is engineered to be maintenance-free. The antenna system will not interfere with any other equipment o the rooftop; conversely, other rooftop equipment will not interfere with the antenna system. -s- r r r i r r r r, Series 8018, 1.8 Meter ECHELONT" Antenna s:iiiit II 1 . ,4 , . _ i .,..
