To the housing task force,
I receive the newsletter from Jill (CCRZ) in regards to housing and development in Carmel. In the most recent one,
it says that individual homeowners (single detached) are a minority and don’t represent the views of the majority. I
don’t think that is true but many of us don’t have time to go to these meetings or are too busy with work, children,
life stresses to read and respond to these. It’s overwhelming.
I have lived in Carmel since I was two (I’m almost 40 now) and have seen much growth that is good but in the last
few years, it’s getting to be ridiculous. I don’t think the city cares about small individual homeowners and it’s
reflected in the building and new zoning around us. I am afraid my home/neighborhood will be rezoned in a way
that makes it impossible to live here. I have had my current house for almost 15 years (June 2009). I don’t want this
to be taken away or sullied by the massive buildings. I want the task force to know how disruptive this is. The
buildings are encroaching on current homeowners and I’ve seen many of my senior neighbors move due to
increased traffic, congestion, and rising rates.
I don’t support the weakening of our zoning. I don’t appreciate large corporations, special interest groups, or the
like buying up the small homes on decent sized lots only to split it up and build giant ones on a tiny lot. I don’t
particularly want a five or six story building (on the old AT&T lot) directly behind my neighborhood but that’s going
to happen regardless. Our neighborhood has been very vocal about this. I don’t support this outlandish and
flagrant building.
